Duraflame DFS-500-0 Thomas Electric Stove with Heater, Black

This was a early Valentines present to my husband & he loves it! I spent countless hours reading reviews, hundred, on various heaters & sizes, makes & models! I read a review of a man who bought the larger version of the heater & stated he was going back to buy this one again! It heats up our 800sq. ft basement reck room. Very pleased with that. Since the fan blows from the heat out the front bottom the heat raises and it can be felt 15ft away within minutes!I refused to pay a hundred dollars for a small tower heating unit that we saw when brousing with no bells or whistles. My mom has the Amish heater. They are great , but have tripled in price. Knowing that at any time the unit can break its hard to throw that money away! I bought this at a GREAT price! I decided to purchase it with the damaged box, thus saved $20.00 and who cares if the box has a dent or bend unless the box is the gift!Terrific delivery time! I myself, carried the box downstairs, thru the house to where my husband was watching TV! He loves it & the flames are rather nice. It is a great feature that the flames are on a different switch in the front of the heater. The red light to the flames are no where as fake looking as I thought & read them to be! Suttle enough that my husband leaves the lights on thru the night!It is great that the logs don't get hot! The top doesn't get hot! We have three little boys and of course they all wanted to check it out, completely! There is no hot spots for them to burn themselves on! Our one dog loves laying in front of it! I truly hope it lasts a few years, if not I will be buying one again, if for nothing more than the lovely flames and style.It is bigger than I thought it would be which is a great surprise! It truly makes the TV room look more inviting < and the flames just pull it all together!Again I spent over 6 hours reading, and cross referencing heaters! Go no further! What a Great HEATER!!

I generally only leave reviews for the best and the worst products that I buy here on Amazon. Thankfully, this product falls into the former.I am pretty hard to please in general but this little stove won me over right from the start even while still removing it from it's box.Growing up in wintry New England, we heated our modest little house in the sticks with wood stoves. This was not without it's unpleasantries. Lugging wood into the cellar and enduring bloody noses and dry skin from the moisture-sucking heated air was never my favorite but I must admit there is nothing like the sound and smell of a wood stove on a cold January night.After living in Southern California for the last 13 years, I recently grew nostalgic for my childhood. I live in an apartment and a real stove is not possible so I looked for solutions that didn't require venting or actual wood and came across the Duraflame 4600 btu.It's built solidly, with a nice patina that does resemble an old cast iron stove. It's also a very good size, not too big and not too small. Perfect for the corner of the living room in my 700 sq foot 1 bedroom apartment.I was rather dubious as to the quality of the 'flames' so I wasn't expecting much when I flipped on the switch (nicely hidden by a solid glass door) to activate them. It turns out they look very realistic. The coals even look convincing. I sat with a glass of wine and watched them dance for at least 30 minutes, happily reminiscing.After being completely spell-bound, I remembered to test out the heater part finally. It has a blower underneath that directs the heat out the front. I tested underneath, behind, on top, and found no heat except where it should be. That's reassuring to me, knowing that the heat will always be confined to a cone coming from underneath the front.I even placed a candle on top and left it there for 10 mins. It did not melt at all. It does get hot around the circumference of the bottom surface but that's about it.All in all, I am extremely satisfied with this product. It's going to be a big hit at my Christmas dinner party. Buy this thing immediately. you won't be disappointed.I am already showing it off to my neighbors ...

I've wanted an electric flame heater for a long time. This one is the right size for my living room and the price was right. It arrives well packaged. The legs are tucked into the substantial styrofoam packing. The only assembly needed is the placement of the legs and securing them with one philips screw each. The manual has clear instructions.The picture at the top of the listing for this stove shows the "log" to look like one ham shaped lump. Further in the description, it shows what looks like multiple logs/embers. I worried about getting the "ham" but fortunately it is the more realistic log arrangement.I think it is odd that the "grating" for the "logs" is on the exterior of the glass door...tho its not noticeable to me anymore unless I am messing with the controls. At first I heard a very low noise as it heated but already I am used to that.It was not my first choice for style as I shopped, but like the runt of the litter, it has grown on me. It is really cute. I have my furnace thermostat turned down to 62 and have this running in the area that I spend most of my time. I can feel the heat, especially on my feet, and it is quite comfortable in here.I love that the flames are adjustable. It was one thing I looked for as I shopped for a stove. I thought if the flames looked silly, the lower setting would not be as obnoxious. I do like the look of the low flame but it is mesmerizing at any level. Its not a real fireplace, but at my age, it is a comforting stand in.The only problem now is concern over my electric bill. If that doesn't go nuts, I will be thoroughly enchanted with this cute little heater.
