Pay attention to the details
After several purchases of the "soft cover" varieties (brands and sellers) of notebooks, I finally found this sturdy "hard cover" version of Roaring Springs composition notebooks. They offer multiple notebooks with varying paper thickness and cover stiffness. Pay attention to the details in their product catalog. Taking notes on sturdy paper, the feel of it under your pen/pencil makes the info feel more valuable and important. It's going to last longer against wear, tear, and time, and it invites more finesse and esteem from the author.

Have used these as data books for years
I have used these for books for many years to record field and lab data. They hold up well. The grid lines make it easy to make tables for data. They lay flat. A great product.

These are hard to find
It's hard to find a composition-type notebook with blank pages. These are sturdy, the paper is of a good thickness & quality, and they have plenty of pages. I only wish they had rounded corners. And for those to whom things like this matter, they're made in the good ol' US of A.

Very good for sketch journaling in ink
I was surprised to find composition books without lines and even more pleasantly surprised to find how nice this paper is for ink work. Though there is some ghosting through the paper, there is very little feathering. These unruled composition books are great for doodling and a nice, relatively inexpensive alternative for sketch journaling. I’ll definitely be buying these again.

Reliable blank notebook
Who knew finding a simple larger blank sketchbook can be so hard??? I wanted basically a pad of blank paper in notebook form, not needing fancy surface. This one is close to letter size paper, and with so many pages, it’s thick and sturdy, so might be heavier if you’re considering taking it on the go.I feel this is probably the only choice among all the questionable quality products now on Amazon. I wished to find prettier covers, but this one will do.

... but the pages are not lined and instead are like printer paper
I hadn't realized when I purchased this item but the pages are not lined and instead are like printer paper, which is great- leaves me a lot of room to be liberal with my notes and journaling. The front and back covers are firm- something I noticed when I was using someone else's Roaring Spring Composition Book- which is great because you can use both the front and back as hard surfaces when writing or drawing in the book. Overall, a great product.

The bleeding is awful.
The paper is really thick, but it's more like kindergarten drawing paper than writing paper. I use Sharpie pens. The feathering and bleed through is really bad, even though my pens are starting to run a little dry. With a new set, I don't think I'll be able to use the facing page. The paper in even new Molskines is thinner, but doesn't bleed like this. The ancient Mead book it's meant to replace has much thinner paper and doesn't bleed. Heck the 88¢ ones from Wal-Mart don't. If you're using pencil I'm sure it'll be fine, but it's by no means suitable for stuff like organic chemistry notes where you have to use a lot of colors. The lines are also really inconsistent. They are 5x5, but of varying thickness and darkness. On the upside, the notebook is really sturdy and we'll put together, compared to any other composition book out there these days. So there's that.Update: After finishing a chapter of notes in this, I went back to re-read and the notes are unreadable. This is absolute garbage and a complete waste of money.

meh-just ok. Just OK with fountain pen
Since fountain pen use is important for me, I would rate as just OK.Covers a little heavier than most cheap comp books. Stitched, corners squared (not rounded).Paper blank (no lines). Minimal feathering, especially with typical nibs (maybe a little more with vintage high flow flex nib.) Some bleed through, and the paper is thin/transparent enough that you might not use both sides of the page.Made in US, which is typically less FP friendly.
