Poker Satellite Strategy: How to qualify for the main events of high stakes live and online poker tournaments (The Poker Solved Series)

I have just finished Dara's book on Super Satellite Strategy. Let me preface this review by stating I have been grinding satellites as my main focus for 8 months, where I currently sit #1 on the Party Poker PPL leaderboard. I wouldn't consider myself a specialist, there are several people who are much better and experienced than myself, but after months of tedious ICM/FGS calculations, I feel like I had a strong handle on proper strategy prior to reading the bookMy reason for buying this book was simple. Outside of Tom Hall, Dara is widely considered the best in the format. I have the utmost respect for both of them. The thing about satellites is that they are so different from any other form of poker that sometimes the entire lens through which you view poker is shattered into pieces. You can not look at satellites through that same lens. As you gain more experience in satellites through work with software (I recommend icmizer2 and monkersolver), you start to develop a lot of theories you might consider batshit crazy. It makes you question every thing you do. My entire strategy behind satellites has been a sort of "brute force" approach where I simply run thousands of simulations of different game states and ask myself WHY I think the results come out the way they do. This takes countless hours and probably isn't the most efficient way to approach thingsWhat Dara's book has done is to confirm some of theories I had made myself. The affirmation alone was worth way more than the $10 I paid.For those of you with no experience, what you can expect is a solid theoretical foundation to playing satellites backed by hard math. It is simple to follow, but will take practice to implement "Gorilla Maths" in your own game. There is no substitute for doing the work yourself, but Dara has shortened your workload by covering the most common spots you will encounter in a variety of satellite situations. In my opinion the book is of great benefit to a player of any skill level who is looking to play satellites. In the first 30 minutes of reading, I guarantee you will pick up something that will increase your future expectation enough to cover the cost of the book 10 fold.-Marty "TJXOLOSFAN1" Mathis

In what can only be described as the holy grail of Poker Satellite Strategy Books, Dara and Barry hold nothing back. Reading and implementing the strategies and concepts in this book should show an immediate return. I guarantee Your CoC(chance of cashing) as described in much detail in the book, will dramatically increase as you gain an edge on the field. Pay close attention to the numbers and the nuances, laid out for you in an easy to understand way. I personally would have paid 5 times what i paid for this book. I went from clueless satty player, to being able to play tournaments far outside my bankroll as a recreational player. If you’re looking to be able to take shots at the higher stakes, or to simply build your bankroll by winning tournament$, this is the book for you. If you’re an advanced player, use this book to become elite.

I heard Dara on a podcast and he was excellent!!! This book is perfect for any poker player though I plan to play more double or nothings now with his knowledge. This book melds theory, academics, and real world experience better than any of my other poker books for Tournament play. Chapter 13 analyzing common play spots is worth the book price itself. Now, this book does take some study time but in today's on-line environment that is what your competition is doing!!!!

You've got to be kidding me! At only $9.99 on Kindle, this is an absolute must read if you EVER play a satellite.I've played a bunch and have well outperformed the odds on winning seats. Last year I sattied into the WSOP $10K Main Event online in only 2 x $215 bullets.Yet I absolutely learned a bunch from Dara's book. And he makes it super easy. Chapter 2 is titled "Satellites in 30 Minutes." So for 10 bucks and 30 minutes, you get hundreds of dollars in value. Even thousands if you play bigger sattties. I would have paid $199 without a thought.In fact, I am trying to schedule a private coaching session with Dara to ask a few high-level questions.Good Luck!Steve L.

I was really bad at sattys, seriously. I wouldn’t even imagine how to win that PPLIVE$ cause there were only pros grinding it all day all night. After reading this book I’ve changed my mind and my game. I’ve set a goal to gain at least 1000 PPlive $ no matter if oi-oi-oi or tjxolosfan were in or not. The only buy-ins I could do were 0.55$, 1.10$ and 2.20$. So, basically I achieved my goal in 1 day (playing every sat beginning with that low buy-in and finally got that 2000pplive$). Thanks to the book strategies - I’ve made a lot of good folds I wouldn’t do if I hadn’t read it. So, big thanks to the authors! I hope I would make some real money out of that pplive

I loved this book. Easy to read and insightful with plenty of strategies for earning more satellite tournament seats. It's GTO based, but they throw in tons of play, stack, positional, tourney phase exploits as well. After reading chapter 2 called "Satellites in 30 Minutes", I played two $1.50 DON's and one $7.50 DON and cashed in all of them, effectively paying for this book.

Understanding your COC is important in all areas of life but none more so then when you're on the bubble of a poker satellite. We've all been there, one step away from ecstasy, sweaty palmed and really unsure if our COC is big enough to get the job done. It's a horrible feeling and more often than not you find yourself making unnecessary moves too early and busting out all over your desktop or tablet.This book is the Karma Sutra of satellites. It takes you through the foreplay of early play, gives you guidance to grow a big stack and then shows you all the right moves to use to make sure the climax of any satellite you play is a joyful one. My COC has grow exponentially since reading this book and I think yours will too.Satellites are sexy again.P.S. COC means 'chance of cashing'

After playing on PokerStars since 2007, and playing against Dara on pretty much EVERY single satellite table whilst trying to win my seat/package to the old UKIPT poker tour in the UK, it was crystal clear he had a huge and crazy edge on the rest of us. He is generally a quiet guy at the tables and my 1st impression is not of someone who is a writer of this calibre, I would not relate the book to the person, maybe that is his plan! I bought the book as I was intrigued as to how much could there be about satellite strategy that I didn't already know, I have done emmensly well myself over the years in satellites, believe me, I KNEW NOTHING!! As a tight player I thought I knew how to play satellites, how wrong I was.After going out on the stone cold bubble of a package for the IPT where top two cashed (Dara being one of them) I decided to study Daras book. I also purchased his satellite masterclass for good measure, willing to do whatever it took to avoid the pain of coming that close and bubbling again.What a game changer that decision was. A few days later I won the coveted package to play in Ireland, and cashed in one of the events too, and tonight I’ve just won another smaller satellite worth 150.It’s just the beginning, and it all happened because of a few important adjustments (which Dara addresses in the first few chapters)Buying this book is money well spent, the only downside is now there are more and more players who know these tricks.

This book is good. Dara quite simply has been in the business too long to bullshit people.The upsides of playing satellites are numerous. It's full of people like me, dreamers, beginners and they turn nits into gamblers, why? Well because it's a chance at a big win with little or no loss. People know the players are fishy and inexperienced. You are playing for seats not places. A seat is a seat whether you win first or second place. It's survival which is easier to do than conquering. It's watching your blinds watching your blinds watching your blinds! But a bit beyond the steps of the palace there are the further Tournament steps to events like the WSOP. Obviously these steps are walked by serious pros. Dara is a pro and an expert in satellites. His record is proof of the pudding. If he can't teach you anything then you're probably rich by now.So now you know why you want to play them. And here is an Author who is an expert and wants to teach you. The book is simply laid out. It's cordial and often anecdotal. It lays out formula and order of decisions in a logical but comprehensible way. Anything you didn't think you were capable of understanding I assure you that you will.There are a lot of poker books out there but not many on satellites. And to be honest there is a lot of fluff in them. As said before Dara quite simply has been in the business too long to bullshit people.

I got this book on Kindle for my other half.Before reading this book, i could not win a satellite or get close to it and couldn't figure out where i was going wrong. Since reading the book in April 2022 i have won satellites for several events in ireland and abroad, giving me the opportunity to play live events that i cannot afford to buy into. All but one of the satellites were online which is where i struggled previously.This is an absolute must read for any satllite player and will be some of the best poker related money you spend.
