The Aputure Battery Grip is a powerful, versatile, and comfortable. It extends the battery life of your DSLR camera, offers a secondary shutter release button for vertical and portrait photography, and includes special function buttons for more shooting options. It comes with a tripod mounting thread as well. Whatever you get with your original brand's battery grip, you get with the Aputure Battery Grip, at a much more attractive price.

What a Value
If you are looking for a battery pack for your Canon camera, look no further. Before you even open the box you can feel the weight and know this is not cheaply made. When you get it out of the box, you know you bought the right product. I weighed the pack without batteries and with. Without; 11oz. and with the batteries; 16 1/2oz. So you will be adding an extra 1 lb. to the camera. The contacts have a nice plastic protective cover when not in use and all the controls are there; shutter, main wheel, metering, and the AE/FE lock button. When in playback view, the main wheel is used for scrolling through pictures, the metering button for enlarging and the star button (AE/FE lock) for reducing the pictures, just like on your Canon camera. They recommend installing the pack without the batteries first. So after removing the battery door and putting the door in the compartment on the pack, then remove the battery. Make sure the On/Off switch is Off on the pack and slide it in. The pack also has a guide pin, so mating with the camera is easy. Turn the thumb wheel to secure the pack to the camera, install the batteries, and you are ready. On some other brands, reviews mention a gap between the camera and the pack; not so with this one. Once secured it becomes one unit. Enough so that I attach my camera sling to the tripod hole on the pack. They recommend switching the On/Off switch to On when shooting vertical and switching it Off when shooting horizontal. That's so you don't push the shutter button by mistake.I'm definitely no expert, but I can't see how you could go wrong with this battery pack. I don't mean to say anything against Canon products, but when it's possible to save a buck or two, why not. Besides, as one reviewer stated, it makes the camera look cool. :-) 5 Big Stars!P.S. This pack is for my Canon 40D

Very decent grip
Most of the parts of it are made in good quality plastic, and the tripod mount at the bottom is somehow metal. It doesn't tightly fit onto the camera however acceptable, both control dial and shutter button feel smooth and nicely done. Consider its price and overall quality I would give it a five-star rating. If you would mind that third-party quality is "cheaper than" Canon OEM, just go for Canon then, this is a good budget choice.-Ben

Have an issue, but will work with it and see if it resolves.
It has a rubberized coating that gives it that nice grip to it. I did have trouble getting my two batteries to stay in. The little white plastic holders that are supposed to hold them in place when you insert them, took me a lot of work to get them to do so. If not snapped in, the door won't close correctly. I don't know if this is going to be an issue. I'll work with it a little while longer and decide. It would be a huge problem if during a wedding, I had to change batteries and I couldn't get them to stay in. I'll reply again after I"ve used it a few times. I'll upgrade it if it works well.

Tough, Affordable, Great!
For the price you pay, you get a very sturdy alternative to the Official Canon Grip. The official Canon Batteries fit like a charm. Whereas, the Wasabi Power Battery pack do not stay in place on their own, I know this is not Fotodiox fault, but I thought it was worth to mention.Overall, great Product!

Quality/features seem fine. Little confused on having two on/off switches(one on camera & one on unit). But, this is my First real DSLR.
