No Caller ID, does not work as advertised, company even comfirmed
I bought this phone for a relative that was almost blind and much older and could no longer remember phone numbers. My intention was they could push a photo button to call out. And then they could hear a name when someone calls in, and know who’s calling. This is how the phone is advertised! However, this is Not how the phone functions.Let me explain. When you buy this phone, you must buy a phone base to pair it with. I knew this and did this. One phone was a number alphanumeric keypad. This was what I wanted. When you program in the numbers to be paired, you Must save them as ‘Photo 1’ for the first spot. The second spot must be saved as ‘Photo 2’. And so on. When one of the four saved numbers call, the Caller ID announces: ‘Call from...Photo 2’.I called the VTECH tech helpline two seperate times and they each told me, the only way the photos can be saved is by labeling them ‘Photo 1’, etc. or the photo buttons will not function to call out. Both people said there is Not a method to get the caller ID to be announced with their product, and they apologized. Which is it: intentional false advertising OR they do not understand how their own product works. I am returning both this phone and the new base phone I ordered. Very disappointed and a lot of time researching, purchasing, and setting up wasted. I hope this can help someone else, if you plan on using this the same way I did.

Nice for my memory care mom!
This phone is easy to use for my 90 year old mom in memory care. Its tricky to download pictures and size them down to fit in the squares, but I know how so it was worth it. You could also just put names in the squares, however, my mom recognizes our faces and I also photoshopped our names on to the picture. All a person has to do is push the face of the person to dial and it dials it. She doesn't have to push on first! Hanging up is easy. You have to have the cordless phone system to match, but I can't tell you how much this helps her. She never uses the regular cordless phone, but that is the one you need to pair with this one.It has a great speaker to it as well. She is hard of hearing but can hear pretty good with it on speaker and up to her ear. Get it if you have a loved one who may lose touch with the her loved ones because of memory issues! We bought it two years ago and its going strong.

Announcement issue when pairing with SN6187
The idea is great and the phone generally works well. I bought this for aging parents to make their use of the phone easier. One of them has problems dialing so the pictures and big buttons are a great idea. He also has difficulty understanding who is calling, so the announcing of who is calling is needed as well. I bought this with the SN6187 - cordless base and pendant combo. Here is the problem when you pair this with the SN6187 - the way the push button phone knows what number to dial when a button is pushed is by entries in the phone book. In the phone book you have to enter in a number and then enter in the name as "Photo X" where X is a number from 1 to 4 corresponding to the button you want. So now when that number calls, rather than being announced as "John" or "Tom", it is announced as "Photo 1" or "Photo 3". Anyone who has an aging parent can understand the confusion that this can cause. The corded base does not have this issue as photo numbers are stored differently and a real name can be applied. Looks like I am going to have to buy that base instead. They fix this and they have a great product. Otherwise go with the corded base which doesn't have this flaw if you want to buy this handset.

Great for those with poor vision or difficulty navigating a regular handset
Pros:Making a phone call with the large buttons has enabled my relative to reliably phone one of her programmed contacts and because it hangs up when she places it in the cradle it doesn't get left "on".Very easy to use - pick up the phone and press the big button.I used large print to spell out the contact's names rather than use a picture.Cons:The ringer volume button is in a bad place so the volume is often adjusted accidentally. The handset has some background static which could be from the base unit placement. I'm working on that.I wish the on and off buttons were more toward the center of the phone like other handsets. The on and off buttons are flat so I had to stick on a rubber nub so my relative could feel those buttons.Despite the cons, this has been a great phone for an elderly relative with very poor vision. It is also so simple to use that anyone who is having problems operating a regular handset will be able to use this one.

Easy dial
These are great for an elderly person experiencing demetia. My mom can now dial us properly. She was pressing the numbers wrong or forgetting our phone numbers. The vtech careline phones are wonderful. 5 stars.

Is Daddy dead or is the phone broken?
This phone is horrible. It has to be connected to the base phone which is fine and the photo speed dial is okay but you have to assign the the speed dials by naming the PHOTO 1, 2, 3, 4...which is ignorant as hell. I purchased this for my 80 year old father who can't hear on it and can't remember whose photo is on the phone in his bedroom. He doesn't even know who photo 1 is when he isn't looking at it. There is no way to adjust the volume and I just spent an hour wondering if he was on the floor and he couldn't hear me or if this stupid phone was broken. I will be returning this garbage!

not sure???????
Not sure how this works because I was not able to get the unit to pair up with the base unit. I bought this for my 93 yr old dad and did not have time to work out the bugs before I had to leave. The base unit with corresponding pendant work very well. I will not be back in town until late July, so any problems will have to be dealt with later. For what it is worth, the unit should be recognized by the base unit and indicates a problem. There is different base unit that has the picture ID on the unit and I suspect would be a better choice, but that unit does not have the pendant. The pendant phone has been a very good value.
