Horn & Hardart Ground Coffee

Purchased this in the last month or so to donate to a 'coffee basket' for a charitable auction. Figured with the 5 star reviews it would be a nice gourmet touch. Kept one to sample, and I'm back to order more for myself!The first pot I made had great flavor, but seemed a bit too strong for our tastes. So the next pot was made minus 1/2 measure of one scoop. And it was perfect. This is one incredibly rich, smooth, and yet mellow and amazing tasting coffee. I've tried a number of gourmet coffees, ending up regretting the heavy, overpowering, and sometimes bitter taste. But this coffee is outstanding.Now that we've used up the bag, I'm ordering more. Drinking our old stand-by again is good, but we sure miss that robust flavor of the Horn and Hardart Coffee. A little pricey, but this stuff is worth every penny.

My husband was very excited when I found this coffee. He remembered loving this coffee when in New York in years gone by. Unfortunately, we both agreed the coffee did not live up to its history. I'm fussier than my husband but he was the first to suggest that someone must have bought the name only because its flavor did not live up to expectations. The taste was missing the more complex flavors (notes?) you expect in expensive coffee. It did not have a smooth or mellow finish. While not bitter per se, we found the flavor so uninteresting, we threw it out.

My 98 year old Aunt Helen who retired from the last Horn and Hardart's automat in NYC after 45 years was completely ecstatic when I told her that this coffee was still available online! She loves it for the smooth, low-acidity and deliciously, well-rounded flavor, and brews it every day.Plus, it brings back wonderful memories for her of her working days at Horn and Hardart's automat at 42nd St. in NYC. She also got me hooked on it instantly, except that I buy the whole beans version for myself. Knowing how much she looks forward to enjoying this coffee every morning, I am compelled to keep her with a constant supply.

Although I absolutely love coffee, I am quite frugal and this coffee seemed expensive 'going in'. But with all the other very positive results and the holidays before me, I caved. I find this to have very nice flavor without any of the bitterness of some of the less expensive coffees to be had have. It'd be nice to have the Keurig cups of this stuff so you could make a cup every now and then versus a whole pot.

When cost two packs $ 25, post. paid, it was good. Now cost $25 plus $5 shipping. Well, you can do much better in Starbacks.

This is by far the best coffee I've ever had. I purchased Horn and Hardart based solely on the reviews here on Amazon and I'm thrilled with this purchase. No nasty aftertaste, incredibly smooth and doesn't need nearly as much creamer as other coffee I've used. I'm a cup a day person but my husband drinks 3-4 cups and he loves it just as much. Highly recommended!!

Not being from the East Coast originally, I now understand the mystique of Horn and Hardart! Marvelous flavor that stands alone - don't bother adding half/half, or even chocolate (so I admit I'm beyond chocoholic... an avowed chocolatarian!). I'm stocking up for holiday gifts!! Thank you for bringing Horn and Hardart back for those of us who are tasting it for the first time!

This is amazingly smooth and drinkable coffee. I've put half 'n half in my coffee my entire life, but this coffee actually tastes better black. I'm happy to be cutting 100 calories out of my day by eliminating half and half.
