MTG Tube Distortion - Transparent and elegant distortion, Advisory - NEEDS power supply
It seems like the reviews for the Fenders new line of pedals are all grouped together on here. Not sure why that is, but it makes reading the reviews confusing. That being said, this is in regards to the MTG Tube Distortion pedal. I was on the fence between this and the Santa Anna. They both seem to provide similar type of distortion and both ramp up with how you attack the guitar. They just go about it differently. The Santa Anna is solid state and the MTG has an actual tube in it.Let me just add a quick disclaimer here that I have been playing through a VOX Tonelab for about 15 years. Loved it, but I have been getting more and more dissatisfied with and wanted to build a board with separate pedals and get out of that "all in one" thing. So with that I don't have a lot of experience with the different pedals out there.I would really like to see somebody actually compare the two. I decided on the MTG because from the videos it seemed to be the exact thing I wanted from a distortion pedal and I really liked the fact that you can set the boost with separate knobs for level and gain. This allows the pedal to be used by itself and have a rhythm setting and boost for the lead. Or, you can use the separate boost pedal and just use this to have 2 different levels of distortion for different songs which saves the effort of readjusting a pedal mid-set or buying 2.As far as the effect itself, it is absolutely beautiful and completely transparent. Meaning it doesn't sound like a pedal. Very natural sounding and does everything you could want it to do. The eq section is great. The tightness control seems a little subtle to me, but that could just be my setup. I haven't used a lot of different pedals, but I can't imagine a tube overdrive better sounding than this.

Loved it the more I used it
Get some pretty good tones out of this pedal. I also plan on using it with synths too.

Not bad, great price great tone
Only have had it a short while I like the eq section. The boost section is a bit over the top for me. The jury is still out but I am using it now and Radial Tonebone is sitting on the shelf. Time will tell

powered alone warm tone
Just added the MTG tube dist. pedal to my board replacing another major brand solid state overdrive pedal. The real tube tone and built in boost appealed to me for a low gain option to the hotter setting lead channel. Just slight warmer tone pushing the clean channel a little. and... yes, it works just as well pushing the lead channel to OMG. The tight control is the significant control feature , allows me to manage hotter pickups to play better with certain other effects in the path when selected. The OEM video is very accurate to the function of this pedal. more details: in pic: This high current demand pedal does not have a accessible battery port. I had to put it on its own power supply. When plugged into the 300ma port on the board power supply had horrible 60cycle hum. Does not work as true 2 channel pedal. The boost function only works when the primary section is on.

Nice “gritty” tone- not transparent
At first, I didn’t like this pedal because it wasn’t transparent. I’ve learned to use it for it’s intended purpose. It sounds really “gritty”, and a little midrangy. It’s sorta Versatile if your looking for that type of sound. Think Santana Samba Pa Ti. That kind of sound. It’s great if that’s what your looking for, if not, keep looking.

Got the pedal and it didn't work
The last pedal I had stopped working, so I thought I'd upgrade to something "better". What I got was a pedal that didn't work.

Great versatile tones.
What a pedal! sounds great with a whole lot of head room, the clean/gain boost is so good and give many option. To my ears it's more "Overdrivy sounding", wich I like a lot.

Tubes all the way
All I can say is that I truly love this pedal. The tones are amazing and the controls are simple to use. Stacked with an overdrive pedal, this pedal sounds even better. A must have for any tube fan.
