Inspirational Cook Book
This book is something every inspiring cook needs to have in their kitchen. I bought several french other cookbooks but none could ever match up to Around My French Table. A good cookbook will guide you into making delicious cuisine. A great cookbook will encourage you to make its recipes over and over again, each time as if it was the first time you prepared it. The pictures also provide guidance into how the meal should look which is very helpful. And the people eating your delicious meals will also give you the positive feedback that will impede you to continue opening the cookbook over and over again. There were several recipes I tried in the book. One of my favorites is Hachis Parmentier (aka Shepherds Pie). I've cooked that recipe at least 8 times and still enjoy it. Another favorite is Chicken Basquaise which very flavorful. The Leek and Potato soup is excellent especially on a cold winter day. Salmon and Lentils was also great. Another reason I recommend this book is the Bonne Idee sections which provides a twist on the original recipe by adding an extra ingredient. Dorie also explains the story behind each recipe which gives more depth to the cookbook. This cookbook has soul and will be in my kitchen for a very long time.

Great recipes, make sure to check how much time so you're not eating dinner at 11:30PM
The recipes are well done, I made the chicken b'stille and just wanted to warn impatient people like me: read the directions! There's no time estimate so you just have to do the math to estimate how much time a particular recipe will take. In the case of the aforementioned chicken b'stille: 3.5 hours. Marinate, cook, separate, bake, cook again. What. It came out beautifully and was so delicious but when the side panel notes say can prep day before. Do that. I also wish there were pictures for every recipe so I know what mine is supposed to look like and can judge how poorly I failed but otherwise great cook book. I'm learning how to use ingredients I wouldn't normally. I'm looking at you, saffron.

Easier Than You Might Think!
A great choice for simple delicious French cooking recipes. Greenspan notes that most of these recipes are what our modern French counterparts--busy working people who may be parents too--use on a regular basis. This is not super "special occasion" food, but it most certainly can be used for special occasions! Greenspan is very famous for her pastries and desserts, but I have been so happy with the non-dessert recipes in this book that I wish there were more of them! Often, people find the term "French" in a cookbook title daunting, and as a result, don't even look through the book. Don't make that mistake here! My family and friends are extremely happy that I bought this book AND use it! I make many of the recipes regularly. It's really worth it even if you don't use a lot of seafood, veal, duck, or lamb.

We have been going through the recipes together and really love her writing style
I bought this for my mom for her birthday, and she really loves it. We have been going through the recipes together and really love her writing style. It feels very familiar, like reading letters from a friend, and her little short stories inserted here and there are charming and funny. For the recipes themselves, she has adapted them for an American audience, and so far I haven't run across any ingredients that would be too difficult to find here. They also don't seem too difficult, which is good because my mom and I are beginners and this was my main concern, but she explains everything very well and doesn't make it too complicated. I can also attest for the authenticity of these recipes, because I just came back to the US after living in France for 3 years, and these recipes definitely make me reminiscent!

But this cookbook!
My wife got this for me for a Christmas/birthday present. A cookbook? Greeeeat. So much for the vintage Land Rover.I’m kidding! I was moderately excited. And then I started cooking from this book.Amazing! The vegetable soup is one of the best I’ve ever made/had. The pot roast is magnificent. The roast chicken for lazy people? Made it last night for the fifth time this year, and it’s phenomenal with minimal preparation.Buy this book. Enjoy it. Now, with all of us staying home and searching for things to do, you can cook together. You won’t regret buying this cookbook, and it will becomeYour go-to for delicious dinners!

I LOVE it. The recipes are easy to follow
My only complaint with the book is I wish it had more pictures. That's it.I LOVE it. The recipes are easy to follow, and oh so yummy! Before I purchased this, I would have never thought I enjoyed French cuisine. Well, now I do. At least the cooking side of it - I have not attempted the baking recipes yet. I love her instructions on HOW to prepare things (meat at room temperature, and unsalted butter, for instance) and have learned so much about proper cooking techniques than I'd care to admit. I have a greater appreciation for the application and use of spices, and love reading about the recipes as well as making them. Excellent book, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to eat healthier and cook delicious meals!By the way - the avocado with oil recipe is as AMAZING as it is basic. Love it!

Wonderful cook book
Wonderful cook book! While some of the recipes take a lot of time, the ingredients are, for the most part, simple. The instructions are, too! I'm not a great fan of fussy French cooking, so this is on track to become one of my favourite cookbooks. It's down-to-earth in its approach, and the recipes I've made (and tasted) are absolutely amazing. They're so good, I'm thinking of cooking them for myself alone!

Delicious!
I love Dorie Greenspan's book "Baking from my home to yours" and have already tried many recipes. All gave perfect results. So I was looking forward to her new book "Around my french table". And when I first opened it, I saw that she starts with one of my favorite recipes: Gougeres. These small cheese balls are the perfect accompanyment to a good glass of wine. And so easy to make! If you were of the opinion, that French Cuisine is complicated, this book will show you that this prejudice is not true. The recipes in this book are easy to make and you will find the ingredients in most American and European markets and supermarkets.Although my native language is German, I had no problems reading and understanding the recipes. And I like it, that the author mixes in some French words here and there.

comment on content of the cook book
The best cooking book I have ever bought. It is worth every single penny of it price. The recipes are so simple but very delicious, and very light. However, it does require some cooking technique for a fair amount of the recipes. It is worth spending time to read thru Dorie's page(s) long description of the cooking technique required to get the perfect result.

One of the best cooking books I own
One of the best cooking books I own! Every single thing I tried came out really well. The recipes are clear and concise and the anecdotes that accompany them are delightful. There were a lot of helpful suggestions and variations of the recipes.another bonus is that the dishes are not soaked in butter and can be a part of a healthy diet. The ingredients for recipes are usually something that most cooks have in their pantry/fridge and/or easily accessible in North American stores. Will be buying this book as a gift for my cooking friends.

A favourite for every occasion
This book has fast become my go-to when we have visitors, and it never disappoints. Every single recipe I have tried has been a magnificent success. They are all easy to follow and with perfect order and timing, even for the most complicated dishes and pastries. I am decided to try every recipe, because every dish we haven't tried is our loss, I am certain of it!

Totalmente recomendable

Authentic
This is a required textbook for a course I am taking. The instructions are clear and the recipes are authentic so the results are great! I love how the author describes where the recipe comes from and how each recipe is used so that it becomes a cultural experience. I like the suggestive alternatives for each recipe as well. I only wish there were pictures for every recipe...I really don't like not knowing what it's supposed to look like until I'm finished making it.

Fantastic intro to everyday French cooking
I loved this book. Not complicated at all and easy to follow instructions. I also loved the back ground stories as well as little tidbits about french food (and drinks), its history, and culture. The only issue I had with this book was that it had recipes for food not necessarily French in origin. Since when is tzatziki served at a typical French table? Two thumbs up. Almost as good a being in France.

Above average American take on French cuisine
I must confess Dorie Greenspan is a name new to me. I bought this after seeing enthusiastic references to it on Eat-your-Books. In the past I have been disappointed with many books in this genre; Patricia Wells particularly, and on reading the cringeworthy list of acknowledgements, worthy of Gwynneth Paltrow at her most tearful, was ready to mark it down. On dipping into the book however, I was very impressed; over 300 good do-able recipes, ingredients that are obtainable this side of the pond with a few easy substitutions, cup measurements certainly, but usually for sensible quantities - only one for cup plus tablespoon of flour, a pet hate. A good addition to the groaning shelves!
