This is a great book for those in lay ministry or just starting out. It gives you great direction in things that you may know you need and those things you don’t think matter but really will make ministry easier and why! Tried and true wisdom that is applicable in any ministry for youth.

We’ve been in youth ministry for over 5 years. These past two years with the pandemic have been extremely hard and recovery has been almost impossible. This book has so many valid insights and has really lit a fire in us again to continue! I highly recommend anyone involved in youth ministry (no matter what denomination) to read this and maybe use it as a study for your teams.

This book blew my mind!!! If your involved in youth ministry at all you need a copy of this buy, beg, steal, borrow, make your youth pastor and pastor read it, and anyone involved in youth ministry at your church should have access to the wisdom in this book. I have read it cover to cover twice and the only book I would say is more important in the church is the BIBLE. Strange how God can give several people the same ideas, Doug Fields was smart enough to write it down. I believe Revival can come in this day but the Youth will lead if it happens. Doug Fields and everyone involved in putting this book in the hands of Youth Ministers the jewels in your crowns will be Indescribably Wondrous. If this book does not become a primary resource in your library of reference material, get out of youth ministry (take up underwater basket weaving) your not suppose to be involved in youth ministry. The change started by this book began in me, and I look forward to seeing that work in the lives of the youth, other volunteer leaders, student leaders, pastor, janitorial staff, I relate it too in my church and community - And all the stages in between!!!

I've only been working with youths for a very short time and over the past couple of months...I've felt sort of hopeless as I lacked not only knowledge but the skills to help the youth department become better organized or well structured. Besides praying for guidance...I was also searching for a good source knowledge to help our short comings. From the moment I came in contact with this book I was very much impressed and I've since ordered 4 copies. I now believe that we're on our way to a better youth and youth related ministry. I will definitely recommend a copy to all Senior and youth pastors, leaders, volunteers/ helpers...even parents can benefit from reading a copy of this book.

Though it's a bit dated now (there was an 'update' to it) the principles are undoubtedly tried and true. Though the things students are involved in and with these days are different - the fact is they are still people facing what all students face. Your mode may change- the message doesn't. The method may change but the principles don't. This is a great map for anyone interested in helping students follow Jesus or helping guide students to discover for themselves.

Doug Fields is the BEST!!!! He gives real advice, that you will be able to incorporate. He knows how frustrating it can be when you have the best intentions and things do not go as planned ... because they never will with teenagers. Accept it and don't give up. What a difference he has made!

This book was such an eye opener. Coming into youth ministry I felt just liked he described. I loved it but felt like something was missing. We couldnt seem to get to the bottom of things and reading this book gave us such a huge eye opener that we put it into play right away and we have seen a change from everyone in the ministry. I recommend anyone that is in youth ministry or thinking about volunteering to read this book.

This was okay but I have seen better

This is a great book for anyone in youth and children's work. It was recommended to me as I had to write a youthwork strategy. Easy to read and lots to think about. It is very American but good.

Must have for every youth leader.

SUCH A GOOD BOOK, so many books by rich warren on the purpose driven series are great. really understanding god has more for us than what we know...another great book for that was "raising kids of increase" by Carmen Lynne both great books
