Fun and helpful
My husband is learning French and I bought him this book as a gift. He loves it and learns a lot working his way through the stories. I would recommend this based on his enthusiasm and continued use of the book.

Good to strengthen your skills, but not for beginners
The short stories are entertaining and good at strengthening your abilities in French. But this should NOT be one of your first French books. I would suggest completing a few levels of basic French first, otherwise even these easy stories will be frustrating to understand, and you may need to translate multiple words in each sentence in order to understand what's going on. I do like the vocabulary section that is part of each story, and I recommend reviewing that before you begin reading the story. The quizzes at the end of the story are good at testing your comprehension. So overall I recommend this book (and volume 2, which I also have). But you should have a strong understanding of French basics first. The only reason I'm rating this 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is marketed 'for beginners'.

Excellent and helpful.
This is one of the most well put-together language study books! I have been a language teacher for 25+ years and the simple, yet comprehensive and effective way this book is laid out amazed me. Short 2-page stories each focusing on grammar and/or vocabulary building. Example: in one chapter, the author tells a story, but puts all the pronouns in bold type -- subject, object, or possessive. After that, the author gives a short summary of the story in both French and English. That's followed by an extensive list of new vocabulary words found in the story. The chapter ends with a short, multiple-choice quiz to check comprehension, followed by an answer page. Excellent, Excellent!!! Highly recommend. Also available in other languages.

Great Book for Self Educated French Learners
This is a fun book for beginners and advanced beginners. The vocabulary is accessible and repeats enough that the reader becomes comfortable with the new words. The increasingly difficult grammar is introduced slowly enough so that the reader’s confidence grows as each new concept is introduced. One takeaway I’ve noticed is that my reading speed and comprehension improved the more I got into the stories.Last is a suggestion for improvement. Particularly since french is not very phonetic, I think it would improve the quality of the book to include a downloadable audio file. All in all, I’m very happy with the book.January 2020 update: I circled back again to this book recently, and found I enjoyed it much more as my french skills had increased, both in terms of vocabulary and grammar. I agree with another review that this isn’t for beginners. Advanced beginners or low intermediate would be more accurate. For example, I have learned the subjunctive, but can’t really use it. Now when I see it in the stories, it refreshes my memory, and (I hope) helps to reinforce the rules and usage. Same with various other grammar rules, use of idioms, etc. I see the typos others see, and I’ve seen some translations other reviewers have disliked. It doesn’t take away from the value I receive from this product/book.

Warning - fun but not beginner level
The stories are engaging, but as others have noted, they are difficult for beginners. The vocabulary includes basic to high intermediate words. The selection of words to highlight (translate in the Vocabulary section) ranges from very basic to advanced, yet omits some difficult words. For example, highlighted are boutique, papa, cafe, kilometre, seconde,-- easy words to guess -- but not embouteillages, hurle or ricane, all in Chapter One. I have similar comments about verb tenses, which include easy to complex.

Excelente!
Já comprei vários livros da Lingo Mastery. Como todos, este também é muito bom para estudar e apreender! Mais fácil ainda usando os recursos de tradução do Kindle.

Love these bilingual books - just what I needed
This is a great book - I take it with me on the subway and pull it out whenever I have a few minutes between stops. I used to be functionally bilingual but I haven't practiced in years. These short stories are great for refreshing my comprehension and it's really well structured with the built in word references and story summaries. Ever language learner should equip themselves with bilingual books like these. Super helpful and easy to learn from. Merci bien!

Great
I really enjoyed this book. The stories are short but enjoyable and each one has a good handful of words in bold that the author wants the reader to focus on depending on the aim of that story (what grammar point it aims at).I am a level 2 uni student and read the stories comfortably but also learnt a lot of new words. I think it's a useful and entertaining why to learn and not overwhelming because the stories are so short.I would definitely recommend and read more similar books to build up my confidence and see more examples of French phrases in the real world. I didn't spot any mistakes!Great, thank you to the author
