It's O.K.
Not a great deal of information and some "out there" drawings which I guess is the new thing. Not really what I wanted.

Using Photoshop for Fashion Sketches
This is a book on fashion illustration, specifically on how to use Photoshop to digitize your drawings, and enhance them by adding color, texture, and nuance. It assumes a basic knowledge of fashion sketching already--it does NOT demonstrate how to draw figures and poses, nor how to draw faces, hands, or clothing. To learn these things, you'll need to look elsewhere. (May I suggest the following? Contemporary Fashion Illustration Techniques by Naoki Watanabe, Figure Poses for Fashion Illustrators by Sha Tahmasebi, Fashion Illustration for Designers by Kathryn Hagen, Figure It Out!: The Beginner's Guide to Drawing People by Christopher Hart, and Human Anatomy Made Amazingly Easy by Christopher Hart. All excellent books that will help you learn to draw dynamic fashion figures.)For what it is, this book is excellent. It teaches you how to properly scan your drawings and prepare them in Photoshop, how to add color, how to work with layers, and how to scan fabric, lace, and textured paper to insert into your drawings. The techniques are sound and explained in an easy to understand way. There are step-by-step drawings to illustrate each chapter, as well as a large number of fashion drawings by the author that show how she used each technique in a variety of ways.Personally, I didn't care for the "textured collage" style of the author's fashion sketches. I found them distracting and too abstract. Most didn't even illustrate clothing, just vague ideas of "fashion." Some sketches that she insisted were "modern" and "youthful," looked like something from the 1980s. Not exactly cutting edge! And while most of her drawings were quite sophisticated, some looked amateurish---out of proportion, as if she didn't quite know how to draw the arms and hands. That said, all of her faces were quite lovely. Clearly, this author has mastered the art of drawing facial features and hair! If you can get past the sometimes bizarre illustrations, you will learn a lot from this book, especially if you're looking for ways to use Photoshop to enhance your artwork.Four stars---recommended for artists and students of fashion design who are looking for a bold, new approach.
