It's 1964 and the gorgeously reckless Peregrine Fisher is rocketed from a lonely, dissatisfying small-town life, into a career as a fearless investigator. Summoned from her coastal home to claim her mysterious inheritance, a young, wayward Peregrine discovers the world and legacy that her Aunt Phryne left behind. A natural rule-breaker, Peregrine has much in common with the aunt she never met. Earning her place at the Adventuresses Club, she must also prove her worth to D.I. James Steed, a dashingly handsome, by-the-books law man who doesn't appreciate Peregrine's daring habit of bending the rules, as she dives into her first murder investigation. The episodes follow Peregrine's adventures as she goes undercover in the world of high fashion, picks her way through 1960s TV, investigates a top-secret science facility and exposes a maze of corruption that leads all the way back to the Melbourne Police.

Bought as gift
The dvds appear to be in good condition. No scratches or marks on the discs. I'm not sure if they play yet as I am giving it to someone as a gift. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is because the case was a bit battered.

Delightful!
I wasn’t sure about this at first as I am a big fan of the original Miss Fisher Mysteries but I was pleasantly surprised. I did wonder how Phryne could have a niece as her sister died young but that was explained as a result of her father’s philandering- totally believable! The modern Miss Fisher has much in common with her aunt and the character translates very well into a 1960s modern woman. She has her own tame detective who is very sweet though he could never compete with Jack Robinson - sorry!

Lighthearted, stylish and wickedly enjoyable
I picked this up on a whim because I love the Sixties. It's fun, light, frothy and fab. Good performances from everyone involved, great characters, lovely design - an entertaining package. If it sends you back to the original 1920s-set Miss Fisher books, TV series and movies, don't blame me!

That's more like it!
What a remarkable update from the Phryne Fisher series. Excellent casting, good story lines and nice chemistry between characters. This more than made up for the less than accurate series that did not really reflect the original character of Phryne Fisher. I do hope that the TV networks continue to produce such excellent material in future.

Used not New
This arrived and was not shrink wrapped. I ordered a new copy (its for a present) and it looks like its been previously used. Misleading.

A Worthy Successor but...
Peregrine is very definitely her aunt Phryne's niece, and I mean that as a compliment to the writers, and to Geraldine Hakewell as Ms Peregrine Fisher. Some aspects of the show seem less satisfactory though; Detective James Steed and Birdie Birnside feel a lot like name changes on DI Jack Robinson and Elizabeth "Mac" MacMillan from Miss Fisher (although that's partly a compliment to Tammy MacIntosh on how well she played Mac). Also, while the fashion is spot on for the period again, I had less of a feeling that this was Melbourne in the 1960s than that Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries was in the 1920s. When/if there's a sequel series, include me in though.

impressive
I waited a long time for MS Fisher 4th series but it never happened. Then I saw this on Amazon and had to give it a try. The actress in different but good. The series follows the same format as the original but more English than Australian. The main character plays the niece of the original MS Fisher. Good fun.

B- quality
I ordered this by mistake, but kept it. It does not come even close to the original, content, plots, acting is all rather a B-quality. I ordered the original and probably never watch this again.
