Managing Previously Unmanaged Collections: A Practical Guide for Museums Paperback – May 17, 2016

I had just started volunteering at a museum with an enormous collection of objects (500,000 or so), of which about 25% had been catalogued. The Director of Collections had done a wonderful job gettting started but I wanted to learn as much as I could do that I could be a better volunteer. I began reading the book as soon as it arrived and could not stop! It was like it was written about the project that my new boss had tackled, only there was so much more info. I lent it to her and she loved it, too! Not too long later I was hired as the assistant registrar and I think that this book helped with it! It is a fascinating read and has so much good information!

I am organizing from square one church history artifacts and documents. This book was helpful in providing logical, easy to understand methods, and giving basic advice for approaching the project.

Informative and useful. This book includes strategies for dealing with unmanaged collections include times when you leave them in a better state without finishing the entire job (not uncommon for employees who have too many hats to wear). Highly recommended.

Kipp's book is so clearly written and approachable; it's an absolute delight. She offers realistic, easy to understand solutions, in a very reassuring manner. This book might as well be purple, and have DON'T PANIC written across the top in reassuring letters.
