Circle of Friends (Special Edition) [DVD]

I have wanted this movie since I got it on VHS. Though for some reason I couldn't find it on DVD. When I FINALLY did find it, the price was unconceivable. I'm sorry, can anyone tell me why a 1995 movie would cost $94.00? The price has decreased significantly since then yet still a bit high for a 1995 movie. ($37.00)I did find a copy for about $9.00 though when I received it, it wouldn't play in my blue-ray nor on my computer. It wouldn't play because it was from the UK which is a different region. UK DVDs are not compatible to US DVD payers. Go figure!!!So, I am waiting. Waiting for this movie to "go on sale" a few more times. Obviously it may take a while. :(

Saw this movie some time ago and it my introduction to Minnie Driver...lover her. But I digress! This is a story of innocent and not so innocent love in 1950s Ireland. It reflects social class, the differences in family, education, sex, and even embezzlement. It is the story of a college aged young woman, unknowing of the life in the big city and the true attraction of "boys and girls." The main character, Minnie Driver's character, is challenged by friends, so-called friends and her first real love. On top of it all, she is a good Catholic girl and is dominated by a loving set of parents who are dictatorial nonetheless. It is a story of true strength of character, and a young woman coming of age.

If I can rate the seller 0 star, I would.After almost 2-month wait on this DVD, they sent a European version. I contacted the seller and they told me that they do not have a version that will play in U.S. Why send a European version to U.S. address? Now I have to inconveniently return this product.“This is a Region 2/B – European DVD/Blu-Ray so you will need a European or multi-region player to watch it (please check the product page for the further information). Unfortunately we do not have the Region 1/A version of the product.”

Get your tissues, find the most comfortable, have a glass of wine and watch one of the most beautiful love stories you'll ever see. Chris takes on a great roll and delivers stellar performance as a young actor. I believe this was Minnie's first roll and she was wonderful. I've watched it several times.

Love the movie. Shipping was quick and easy.

The movie is great. The only problem was that I can only play it on my nephews Xbox. It would not work in any of my dvd players

Full of good Irish acting, a sweet story, and getting to see some later well-known actors at the beginning of their careers.

The DVD won't play on a std. dvd player. nothing in your info said anything about this problem. We want our money back!!!! send us the return paperwork.Jim Shepherdson

J'ai découvert ce film sur Canal + (en français) il y a des années et à l'époque j'avais adoré. Me souvenant de ce film au détour d'une bio de l'un de ses acteurs j'essaie de trouver le DVD en français... pas moyen, par dépit je l'ai commandé en anglais avec des sous titres mais attention en anglais pas en français! Me débrouillant un peu en anglais et l'ayant déjà vu et ayant aussi le livre dont il est tiré, l'expérience a été géniale et m'a plongé complètement dans l'Irlande catholique. Un régal, je vous le conseille mais ATTENTION IL N'Y A PAS DE VERSION FRANCAISE dans cette édition, ni dans d'autre d'ailleurs dommage c'est un super film à découvrir!!!
