... book had been previously used but was in very good condition and was received on time
The book had been previously used but was in very good condition and was received on time.I am an English tutor and am currently reading this with a 12 year old female student. The story is gripping but heartbreaking. I would recommend it as a good read for children of my student’s age. Adeline writes from the heart and it would be impossible not to be moved by her story.

An Average Read
I chose this autobiography due to my interest in China, but sadly it failed to excite. Reading each chapter I felt some empathy with Adeline but the way in which it was written was so simplified that I got no real sense of Tianjin, Shanghai & Hong Kong. The prose centres around the author’s academic achievements, with reference to the ill-treatment by her stepmother, but sadly I closed the final page feeling that I had learned very little of her personality.

Fantastic book, must read!
One of the best book that I have read. Brilliant book. True story and I can’t believe it’s for children as I would say it’s for an adult. I don’t like reading books but couldn’t stop reading this one !
