Sony AW-Q170A-B2 18x DL DVD±RW IDE Drive (Black)

This is a Sony DVD RW IDE Drive. It was about the only one on the market, other are all SATA now. I did not want to deal with ATA/SATA converter to avoid problems. I had to replace the DVD RW that failed in my Sony computer. Sony have a history of DVD drive failing after a few months (be aware, it could happen again but this item is inexpensive) but I did not want to pay much to retrofit my old desktop. Other IDE DVD drives are quite expensive in comparison. This is was only $20. Finally I succeeded to restart my computer and today this DVD RW IDE Drive is still working after 2 weeks.

They sent me the wrong one! It says black and looks black in the picture and my computer is black, but they sent me a white one... When would you ever even want a white one?? It doesn't match, but it is a 10yo computer... device works great so I don't really care about the color really... I didn't think I ordered a white one.Now to the main point of this review... This is an IDE... this is made for older computers and will not work on newer computers, at least the last few years anyway... the connections aren't even the same... Make sure you know what type of hook up your computer has before you order this device... an SATA or IDE hook up... It does matter!!

I will give brief comments - this was not a positive experience - it had many draw backs - WAS NOT A SONY - it was a knock off. 1st one was broken, second one didn't work - I called Sony, they are who advised me it wasn't their product, they couldn't help. Buyer Be Ware comes to mind.

Great product just what I needed.

Did not match the specs for the multi CD duplicator I wanted to use it in but will be perfect as a replacement in a single player/recorder unit.

Drive was d.o.a. Not impressed at all!!!
