Superb story. Easy to understand from reception up
Great positive story of young black girl who grows up through adversity to become successful in her career . Story told without all of the sad details but sensitive hints at a hard life, which are constructive. Great to see a book that instill hope in children so young. Also speaks about racism but in a sensitive way. Great book, enjoyed by young girls. Girls were Very impressed by what happened when she grew up. Fantastic book for kids / parents library or foster parents library . Good story of hope & change

Reading book
The media could not be loaded. Im not sure if the book was supposed to be like this but the inside of the book is upside down.

Book is good, but for older children. Cover on back to front and upside down.
A very good book but our copy came with the cover on back to front and upside down. It was for my daughter and not a gift for someone else so I couldn't be bothered sending it back for an exchange. Also, there is a line in the book saying that Maya was attacked by her mother's boyfriend and this led to her not speaking for 5 years. This may be a bit inappropriate for some ages so just some forwarning.

Great series promoting diverse role models
A lovely book. Accessible to a wide age range as are the others in the series. Not my 5 year old and 9 year old enjoy reading and having the stories read and they initiate a further interest in the subjects or there expertise. We have many titles

Excellent book.
Excellent book... I bought this as a gift for my friends daughter but I love it that much, that i will buy one for my daughter too. The book is well written for children, and can be used as a confidence tool for young black girls...Amazing
