I’ve read this book five times, it’s great for beginners
If you’re wanting to get into the WOW lore or into reading, this is a great book to start with. Sure, it’s a bit confusing at times and it’s not a very deep book. But wow, something about it makes me pick it up again and again. It’s a comfortable book, it’s a short book, it’s a fun book, I love it.

Fast shipping, good quality and a really good story! :D
The quality of the book itself is very good, it arrived with no damadge at all and on time. The story of the book so far as I've gotten page 20 or so, I have just started reading it - is very good as well and I can't wait to see what happens and to find out more about both Khadgar and Medivh.I am very happy with my purchase and I would recommend others to give it a go as well. :D

Slower than you'd think, but good.
I picked this one up on a the advice of a friend, who adores the book, and can recite bit of it verbatim, I swear. Turns out I liked it more than I thought I would. It’s a slow paced book, but I still enjoyed it. The book’s through the eyes of Khadgar, 17 years old, and fresh from mage school in Dalaran. He’s ready to take on the world with his spells and knowledge, and has been known to get in trouble for finding out what he really shouldn’t know. So it’s part honour, part get out of the way that he’s been sent to Karazhan to apprentice to the Magus Medivh. Once there, he finds things aren’t what he expected, and he has to make some shifts in his mindset to keep up with what he thought he’d be doing. All in all, it’s kind of fun. Khadgar goes from expecting things to be a certain way, to learning how things work on the fly, and struggling to keep up. It’s a drastic change from his safe land of Dalaran, where everything is done just so. In one scene, the knowledge of how to ride a gryphon is magically given to him, and he has to come to terms with learning it that way, while taking his first gryphon ride. And then, he still messes up and falls off. It’s a lot of fun. Overall, the book is fun, albeit a slower paced book. If you want a lot of action, this isn’t the book for you. Like mages in general, there’s a lot of pondering and theory, and a lot of quiet scenes, and not a lot of action. It picks up at the end, and fans of the Warcraft movie will notice parallels of the movie to this book, but overall it’s a much slower plotted novel than one would expect from a Blizzard book.

Read this to better understand Khadgar, Medivh, and Karazhan
I've been playing World of Warcraft for eleven years at the writing of this review, and I only just became interested in the actual stories behind the game this year. Having become familiar with the characters and locations in this book via the game, I found this story to be an excellent source of detail, and the depth it gave regarding the characters is absolutely consistent with what I knew of them already. It also gave me a better understanding of the characters' motivations in game. I loved it. It's my favorite so far of the half dozen or so Warcraft novels I have consumed in the last four months. This edition is also quite nice. Printed on nice paper with large type. Fits in nicely next to my Tolkien collection on the shelf.Disclaimer: Khadgar is my favorite character in the entire Warcraft franchise at this time, so I may be slightly biased.

Solid addition to Warcraft library
Not my favorite of the Warcraft novel series, but that is personal opinion. Did its job for the lore and was well written.

Lot's of great lore
I'm going to say that even though this book started off unbelievably slow, and stayed that way for quite a number of pages, I'm giving it the rating because of what it contains. There is a ton of great lore in here that answers many questions for those like me who started off just playing World of Warcraft while knowing nothing about the lore of the different Warcraft games. This book is a must if you want to know how, and why the Orcs came to Azeroth, and how young Khadgar came to be so important. It also explains why Medivh opened the portal and how Garona ties into all of this. These are two characters that you can't help but pity.It may start slow, and remain so for most of the book, but towards the end the action picks up, and I couldn't put it down.

Meets expectations. Very enjoyable
A short fantasy tale. Well written. It doesn’t push the boundaries of the genre or is anything ambitious. It is however, a very enjoyable tale expanding on the lore of the Warcraft universe. So if you’re someone who has played the games or watched the movie and want more, this is perfect. It features some well crafted scenes and some deft foreshadowing. Khadgar and Garona are highlights, but I wish Lothar would have been more developed.

At times hard to read if you appreciate sublime literature...
Not Pulitzer price material, but it tells an interesting story relevant to the lore of WOW. Mission accomplished I guess...but it sure has a lot of room for improvement storytelling wise and in terms of linguistics. I wouldn't buy it for full price again, but if you are a fan of the phrase "Despite himself", you will be a happy reader, because you will find that one on almost every other page no matter the context :/

This is my favourite of the Warcraft universe novels
This is my favourite of the Warcraft universe novels. If you ignore the fact that this is related to a 'video game' universe, it still stands up well as a fantasy tale. You don't need any prior knowledge about the world. Don't confuse this book with the recent movie -while they cover the same period, the book predates the movie by a good chunk and tells a much different story. The characters are well thought out and presented/developed well. The story centres around Khadgar who is sent under the guise of seeking apprenticeship to spy on Medivh. Early on, he speculates that he was sent there to keep him out of trouble -as he has a talent for digging up information others would like to remain buried. Medivh has apparently been through a series of potential apprentices; and most have not ended well! While the basic story is a fairly well used trope, it's enjoyable. The characters are relatable.
