Was great in it's day!
Nice game. Had many hours of fun. The only problem I found was that we used the classic controller to drive the cars. My son got used to it but I didnt. This game is very, very old now, so I would look for a later one to be honest.

Dreadful!
EA Sports really do not have a clue what they are doing. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport, the official PS2 game for F1 should be the pinnacle for racing sims. This game is far from that. It is too "Arcade" to be a sim, when I first played it reminded me more of Mario Carts than F1! The physics engine is - if anything - worse than F1 2001. The controls are just as twitchy, and feel totally removed from the control pad.F1 2001 was a step back from previous (Pysognosis?) versions of the F1 series, F1 2002 is even worse. They have made some attempts at some nice features - slip streaming, cut scenes, actual pit stops (where you control the car throughout the whole process) but interest in these wane quickly and meanwhile the dreadful gameplay remains.Sony and FIA should do the world a favour and put the F1 series in the hands of someone who can deliver against F1 fans expectations. This woeful attempt is surpassed by several PS1 games and has no right to be a lead title in the PS2 stable. Save your money and get GT1 out again - the gaming experience is twice what this has to offer.

VERY DISAPPOINTING
After playing EA Sports Formula 1 2001 game which was OK, I expected this year's follow up to be a big improvement. WRONG! If anything, the game has regressed. Official Formula 1 is big business worldwide and why they have let EA ruin their game is bewildering. There is no realism at all, this is an arcade game for 10 year olds. There is not much set-up options for the car (wings, tyres, suspension). This is all terrible. The graphics are ok but nothing special when you look at games like V-Rally 3 and also the fantastic new TOCA Race Driver. I won the world championship in my first season driving a McLaren. It is so easy, but overall dull and disappointing. Next year maybe, I won't hold my breath. Save your money and get TOCA Race Driver or even the EA Sports Formula 1 2001 is better than this rubbish.

Great Game
I really like this game. The driving is easy to get used to and the graphics are excellent and smooth. I recently rented out sonys version of F1 2002 and it was awful. I didn't have the option to use the direction buttons, while driving, and the graphics were bad for the ps2. This game had none of that. The one bad thing is the unrealistic parts like a driver tearing off a helmet stip while going through eau rouge. And also most of the cars are competitive and dont give you the challenge of making them better. But still a good game.

F1 2002
There are plenty of racing games available today but for my money F1 2002 by EA Sports is the best around. With accurate versions of all 17 championship tracks, blistering speed and incredible graphics, thi is the game for the true F1 enthusiast. The 2002 version retains the basic structure of its 2001 predecessor, but updates all the teams with current cars and drivers, and adds several new challenges. It retains the ability to race in every element of the full Grand Prix weekend. One great change is that the Challenge Mode has been totally revised, replacing basic "Stop" and "Start" type tests with more complex exercises to help develop your racecraft. One minor criticism of all such games is that they cannot accurately capture the gradient of a track - but now I'm being picky!Should you buy the game if the already have F1 2001? If you love Grand Prix, my opinion would be yes. You will enjoy the new challenges, the cars handle slightly better and of course you'll be bang up to date with today's grid of cars and drivers. So, send your family out for the evening, turn up the volume on your TV and wait for the five red lights to go out....
