great!
Got one for each of my family for their backpack for camping. I think it's great for emergencies. Everything on all four works. We tried them out and for the price, you can't beat it! My temp gauge is in F and not Celsius.

Definitely Could Use Some Improvement
This "7-in-1 Survival Whistle" seems like a good design idea that went the cheap route. Before you purchase this, you should be aware of a few particulars: 1. The compartment is NOT waterproof. Naturally, one would want to store match heads, tinder, fish hooks, or water purification tablets in such a compartment, except that there is NO O-ring or waterproofing to seal out moisture. Should this device be immersed in water for any reason then expect the compartment to get soaked. **If you purchase this device, you will need to find a small waterproof plastic baggie that can fit inside the compartment and protect small items from water damage. 2. The three sections of the body are held together by simply twisting them into place, which means the sections could inadvertently come apart and become lost. The product should have been designed so that the body sections screwed together securely. 3. The performance of the compass is "decent" and certainly not the best in its class. Mine kept pointing NNE instead of N. **If you purchase this item, you will need to compare the compass alongside a professional compass and re-tune with a strong magnet if necessary. 4. The therm comes either in Celsius or Fahrenheit depending on where you purchase this product. The reading is not very accurate, but then having a term in a survival situation is useless anyway. After all, knowing the EXACT temperature of your surroundings isn't going to do much good in helping to save your life. 5. The small magnifying lens CAN be used to focus the sun's rays to start a fire, though it is best to do so within 3 hours of noon on a clear day. 6. The single LED light is not intended for signaling purposes. But having a small bright light is better than nothing when you find yourself in pitch black darkness. 7. The whistle is not as loud as a professional survival whistle. There are other whistles on the market that produce many more decibels. On the up side, this whistle does NOT use a "pea" (small ball to product sound) as some have described. (Pea whistles tend to lock up when wet and therefore are unreliable in a survival situation.) MY MAIN GRIPES about this product is lack of quality. The designers had the opportunity to make a great product, but chose to go the cheap route instead. If I could redesign this...I would use ABS plastic, design the body to screw together and be completely waterproof, replace the therm with a magnesium ferro rod and include a small steel tool for a striker, use a real magnifying glass, and attach 550-paracord for the lanyard. BOTTOM LINE: The "7-in-1 Survival Whistle" makes a good gift for your children ages 10+ who enjoy the outdoors. And having this is better than nothing should you find yourself stuck in the wild. Just know that "you get what you pay for" and there are better products on the market that offer higher quality.

DO NOT BUY!!!
I bought this item hoping it would be a great addition to survival gear. I thought it'd be a great tool to have while hiking. It is a great concept but in reality it is a really sub-par product. The compass told me a differnt N every time I looked at it. The mirror is a joke- didn't even reflect light when directly under a light source. And the whistle was barely audible. All in all not a very good survival tool. The thermometer was acurate when I unpacked it to check it out, the magnifyer glass did magnify a bit, and could possibly start a fire on a really good sunny day, the LED light was great, and there were no problems with the lanyard. All that being said, I bought this for emergency situations, and all the tools that I would need in such a situation- compass, whistle, signaling mirror, did not function correctly. Also, if you are hoping to be able to fit some emergency matches in the compartment it is not water tight, and you may be able to fit some tinder and matches in if you cut the matches down. I would not recommend this product to anyone. It would not help anyone in an emergency situation, and if someone was lost the compass could actually make them more lost! DO NOT BUY! Invest in quality separate products. Buy a good compass that comes on a string, and buy a good whistle! Carry some fire starting materials and other emergency supplies in a little altoid can!

fine except for compass
Everything about this item was as presented, except the compass does not work -- which is not what one expects in a 'survival' whistle. I am writing to manufacturer to see if they will replace the compass, or the entire item. If the compass worked, this would be an excellent and compact tool.

Whistle while you....
All in all not a bad product for the price. It's not the greatest attention getter as a whistle but it is versatile.

Mediocre
The item is not as sturdy as I had hoped, and the storage compartment isn't big enough for anything that I can think of!

Give this to young boy for his scouting trips. He told me it has not only made him more scure, but also has learned a great deal involving the compass

Last minute purchase for my camping trip and I didn't get it in time for the trip; still the delivery time was reasonable. Everything seems good; you can twist and open it in the center to get to the mirror and magnifier, but you'll notice there is no "clicking" when you close it. So it feels like it's not reliable and it might open up on its own; hence I dropped one star. Overall I'm happy with my purchase.

Very brittle plastic, whisle does not work very well. You get what you pay for.
