4-way comparison
Summary: 4-way comparison of different hygrometer models. Evaluation: Two main focus areas: 1) Is it accurate, and 2) can it be adjusted. For the accuracy, I adjust all of the hygrometers outdoor at 90% relative humidity, and then took them inside, and they all tracked to 60%, except for unit #4, which remained at 80%. So three tracked together, and I deemed those "relatively accurate". Unit #1: 5" Hygrometer Thermometer Indoor Outdoor [UPDATED English Version], Humidity Gauge Indicator Temperature Humidity Monitor, Analog Hygrometer Humidor for Patio, Wall Decorative, Room, Home, Office Rank: 1st Pros: a) easy to read dial, b) relatively accurate, c) reading updates quickly, d) adjustable Cons: None https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LD3PBNK Unit #2: 75mm Round Cigar Oasis Analog Hygrometer Cigar Hygrometers Cigar Hygrometer Round Cigar humidor Hygrometer Rank: 2nd Pros: a) fairly easy to read, b) relatively accurate, c) adjustable Cons: None https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H8CQVCN Unit #3: Lockdown Vault Hygrometer Rank: 3rd Pros: a) relatively accurate Cons: a) adjustment requires disassembly https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RQWLAA Unit #4: Cigar Oasis Analog Hygrometer by Western Humidor Rank: 4th Pros: None Cons: Not accurate, relative to three other units. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JXOKPT0

I'm impressed.
Having been looking around for a moisture meter I noticed that what I saw was either too small and cheap looking or of the digital battery operated type. I wanted a big analog one, and I was pretty sure that I would have to settle for plastic. I was about to give up when I came across this guy. 1. It is brushed aluminum ( matches my big thermometer) a huge point on the plus side. 2. It is 5" plus diameter, easy to read at a distance. 3. A colorful and practical dial. 4. To my amazement it did not need to be adjusted. Both its little thermometer and its big moisture hands came spot on. I keep it out in the screened in porch and easily check out the mornings humidity while I walk by the window. I am quite happy with this . . . tool. It is a handsome thing. Get one before everything goes plastic..

It's got it's own mind, but it looks so nice!
Update after a few months use: The humidity reading is responsive and reasonably accurate, as long as you understand how this unit works: It measures the average humidity over the past hour, not the immediate real-time momentary humidity. If you need real-time momentary humidity information, or if youโre moving the instrument from room-to-room youโll need a digital hygrometer (any product that uses batteries). And yes, this unit still looks great on the countertop. No way will I get rid of it! ==================== (Original review) I wanted to trash it when I first opened the box. The actual humidity outside was surely 85% to 90% with intermittent tropical rainfall that day, but this instrument was only reading a steady 60%. The instructions say to give it a couple hours(!) to self-calibrate, and the instructions also show how to manually calibrate with a small screwdriver. I have another accurate hygrometer and after moving this pair into air conditioned rooms and outside in the high humidity and tweaking the manual calibration I think it's working as well as possible now. This hygrometer has a slow-acting system. It tells you the average humidity over the past hour or two, not the humidity at this particular moment. If you're moving this around from place to place you won't get an accurate reading until you leave it in one place for a couple of hours. If there are swings in humidity during the day, such as from twilight until sunrise, or on an intermittently rainy day, this instrument is not going to tell you the humidity of each waft of air, only the average humidity over the past couple of hours. The instructions say "accurate to within +/-5%", which is more than 4% humidity variance when you get up to 85% humidity. If you take it from a cold environment (air conditioning or cold air outside) into a warm humid environment there is a period when the condensation inside the unit will cause it to read 100% humidity for an hour or two, until the internal condensation evaporates and the unit can self-calibrate to the ambient humidity level. This thing is so good looking on a tabletop, you just *want* it to work. That's why I'm keeping it. Only other negative is the (very) small dial for temperature is principally in Celsius (on the outside marks) and the inside marks for Fahrenheit are at the equivalents of each 10 degrees Celsius so you get Fahrenheit marks at 32, 50, 68, 86, and 104 degrees Fahrenheit, which is wierd. As a Fahrenheit user my brain doesn't think in increments of 18 degrees. I want the inside Fahrenheit legend to have numbers at every 10 degrees Fahrenheit (50 deg., 60 deg., etc.) plus a mark at each 5 degrees Fahrenheit. I can fairly easily tell you the temperature in Celsius from this dial, but I can't really tell you by looking what the temperature is in Fahrenheit. I need a separate thermometer somewhere to tell the temperature in Fahrenheit.

It's bigger than you think!
It's large - don't think of one of those small hanging oven thermometers. I can read this thing from across the room! Great buy regardless and serves the purpose in a Florida home.

An Ideal Humidity Monitor
Perfect for monitoring humidity in the home! This winter has been brutal and I recently purchased a humidifier to add some moisture back into the air. This little monitor is ideal for keeping an eye on your homeโs humidity levels so you donโt overdo it. Best of all itโs analog! I was so exasperated thinking I was going to have to buy another gadget device to plug in somewhere or put batteries in. I was so happy to find this humidity monitor that doesnโt require a thing but a little bit of counter space.

Needs calibration - Nice & easily read relative humidity
Regardless of whether it was calibrated before leaving manufacturer, it has been bounced around in boxes, by forklifts, in containers in ships, by cranes, in warehouses, in trucks and probably more than once by the classic "savage baggage handler." I do not fault the gauge for being off when first opened. I did the salt/water calibration. (1/2 cup table salt; 1/4 cup water; sealed container/bag; stable temperature) Search this process if you are unfamiliar with it. I had to adjust the gauge iteratively. I found small adjustments did overshoot when the gauge was allowed to stabilize again. I finally called it good enough and it is mighty close. I'm an engineer and wanted it perfect, finally had to admit to myself that this is not a lab instrument so do not expect it to be one! The thermometer is adjustable as well. I found it accurate out of the box and did not need adjustment. The relative humidity is large and easily read. The temperature dial is small and not easily read, but I didn't purchase this as a thermometer. The main body is metal, stainless I think. The lens is glass (I tried to scratch and whatever it is is much harder than most plastics.) The stand/foot is plastic and is attached with a phillips head screw. I like the gauge and will buy another one for in the house. The one I bought is outdoors. It is stable on its stand/foot and it does have a keyhole slot to hang (after removing the stand.)

It's not accurate at all... Disappointing.
I cannot get this to read accurately. Out of the box, I placed it on my nightstand next to a digital unit (also newly purchased) & an alarm clock that shows temperature. I wasn't sure which units were correct so I wanted to compare. I left them for 6 hrs and this analog unit didn't match the others. Leaving them overnight: they all remained the same, respectively. Then, I moved the units to my hallway where my ecobee is {Photo doesn't show this unit, but only the digital one. This unit is sitting nearby though}. Within 5 hrs, the digital one essentially matched the ecobee readings. This analog unit did not budge from the previous reading in the bedroom. I moved them both into my dining room. The 2 photos on the table are from 24 hrs, then 36 hrs: the humidity readings were still quite off from the digital unit. After the 24hr mark, I did try to adjust the humidity by 3 notches/% and adjusted the temperature to match all my other household units. To more accurately test, I then wrapped the unit in a damp cloth towel & left it for 2 hrs. It read 90% and not 100%. Instead of adjusting the calibration by 10% to 100% after this 1st test, I tried the salt test. I initially placed it in a ziploc type bag overnight w/ the salt slurry, but the hygrometer didn't budge. Perhaps the baggie I used was too thin to create a closed environment. So I placed it in a container with the salt slurry & left it for almost 2 days. See photo: its barely at 50% and not 75% relative humidity from the salt. I took the lid off the container to allow it to come back to 'normal' and after 4 hrs, it's now sitting at 10%. That's the fastest this gauge has even shifted! My home in general is not at 10% humidity, especially on the kitchen counter. Thus, having only adjusted the humidity by 3% and not more, this unit is bouncing all over the place, albeit slowly. The temperature reading has settled into a more accurate reading, but not the humidity. I am returning it as defective.

Great deal, stylish, and effective for keeping track of humidity.
Nice looking hygrometer to keep track of the humidity in my music room/office. I really like the analog dial and austere style and it works.

A most excellent hygrometer
It's getting harder and harder these days to find devices that aren't over-engineered to the point of absurdity. It seems everything needs to be hooked up to your phone via Bluetooth, and needs to be controllable solely via an app of dubious quality and provenance. For the average hydroponic farmer, the last thing you want is to carry your phone into your grow area - hydroponics and delicate electronic devices don't mix. There are other reasons not to use apps, of course, but anyone with an IQ above room temperature is already well-informed about that aspect. Enter this device. No setup, no batteries, no app install, no fiddling around. Just take it out of the box and you now have the power to tell the humidity and temperature at a glance. The large size means you can read it all the way across the room, even through your plants if they're not too bushy. Construction seems fairly solid, though time will tell. I don't have another hygrometer that I can compare it to for accuracy, but the temperature is within one degree Celsius of my infrared thermometer. As I change the humidity in my setup, the hygrometer responds as expected. Overall, highly recommended.
