Would this light be enough for planted tanks?

If you are growing live plants, you should be using a light made for that, as the plants will be not be getting adequate natural light. They are usually top mounted florescent bulbs. This is important, as these lights provide the "nutrients" your plants need to thrive. Amazon has a good selection of grow lights.

Yes, it would be good for it. I use it in a 10 gallon tank with some moss and it's been growing fast. I usually keep it on white though.
