Impressive!
When I first decided to start making my own sausage I just used my wife's popular model food processor with its meat grinder attachment. Using an often suggested method of putting your pre-gound meat in the freezer for 30 minutes before grinding to firm it up, I ground about 15 pounds of port shoulder before I burned up the motor in the food processor. Wanting to stay on my wife's good side and avoid any additional consternation, I opted not to use her new food processor to grind meat. After hunting around on the internet I came across the STX-1800. After reading about half of the reviews and noticing that most reviewers were happy to very happy with the customer service and the performance their machines, I decided to purchase a unit. After my 1800 arrived I played with it a little to make sure everything worked. One reviewer noted his machine didn't work out of the box and a replacement was immediately sent after he contacted customer service. Everything worked and all of my extra components were there. I read the owners manual from cover to cover. This was a good idea because there were some good food safety tips in there I hadn't thought of. My first experience with my new machine was to make bulk turkey sausage. Using the previously mentioned process of firming up the meat in the freezer, I was able to grind through the entire bird in short order (sorry I didn't actually time myself). Another reviewer made a comment that he almost couldn't keep up with the grinder, I figured I'd believe that when I saw it. Well, I saw it! The machine was grinding the meat so fast I almost couldn't keep up feeding it in. I WAS IMPRESSED! When I was done, something that I didn't expect to surprise me was how easy it was to clean up. My next experience was to make bulk chicken sausage. I used the same freezer firming method and I ground about 25 pounds of sausage. At one point during this stint of sausage making I got sidetracked and time got away from me. By the time I got back to my freezer tray the chicken was substantially more than firmed up, it was frozen solid. I wasn't sure if I should run the meat through the grinder or not, but I decided to try a couple of pieces and see how well it would work or not. The grinder barely showed any sign of effort, it just ground through the frozen meat. NOW I AM REALLY IMPRESSED!!! After that experience I definitely would recommend this machine to anyone that is serious about grinding meat (as matter of fact, I did)! The only downside issue, if you want to call it a downside, is that (as also noted by a couple of other reviewers) the motor is a little noisy. I have worked around industrial machinery most of my life so for me, this is not an issue. It is what I would expect from a motor with almost 3/4 horse power.

Works perfect on Chicken quarters with bone in!!
Love it!! Worked perfect for grinding my 3 shepherds raw diet consisting of semi frozen chicken quarters with bone in, cut into rib size pieces. Being Semi Frozen compared to thawed, the grinder performed fast and simple. Absolutely no over heating, no bogging down, and cleaning was super easy. I've ground 60lbs easily so far, it was easy to use, no jamming, no black gunk others mentioned,. I didn't find it to be any louder than a blender/mixer if you were chopping ice or nuts, something that has a harder texture. Sturdy, and quality of the grinder I feel is as good as some even more expensive, priced right for me. I'm satisfied with my purchase, and happy I didn't let some of the reviews stop me..

Nice little grinder, if you elevate the back Edit: updates included
Original review: Nice little grinder for the price. Will do chicken bones if you follow the *rules* of semi-frozen. Pretty loud, so I always wear a set of earplugs. As a newbie home cat food maker, it took me several batches till I had a good routine down where setup, processing, cleanup is pretty quick. Only issue I have is if the meat is a little wet, a gray black liquid will come out with the meat. Only way I found around this is to make sure there is no extra meat juices, and slightly elevate the back end so any meat juice will flow downhill out the front and not go in the back and cause that reaction back there that turns it gray/black. I read other reviews and one mentioned there should be 2 washers on the auger, one is plastic, that prevents this issue. Mine doesn't have the extra washer (plastic one). I bought this grinder several months ago, so there are still some without the 2nd washer hanging around in stock. I like the grinder size, easy for me to pick up and carry, which is important being a small person. I can't go the Westen or Lem size grinders. Other than having to elevate the back end to get away from getting the gray/black coloring on the food, it's a good piece of equipment. Update: After seeing the reviews where people contacted the manufacturer and was sent the missing washer, I reached out, too. This month (Aug. 2017), I was told they now use 2 metal washers and 1 vinyl, making it a total of 3 washers. The rep was very nice to speak to on the phone and quickly shipped out the 3 washers. We put them on, but alas.. using these washers pushed out the auger so much that the grinding plate does not fit in the head and definitely will not latch onto the holding key. I emailed the company again over the weekend, so I am waiting for their reply on what to do next. At this point, the only choice is to remove the new washers and go back to elevating the back of the grinder so any meat juices will tend to flow out the front instead of reacting to the metal in the back and causing black goo. Somewhere along the line there is a design flaw. The grinder head may need to be shaved down in production to allow room for the 3 washers that prevent the flow of meat/juice from getting in the back that causes the discolored goo. I need to grind food every 5 days, or I will have a mutiny of the furry kind. ;-) I will update my review as the sage continues. Update Aug. 17, 2017. Been in touch with company, suggested take off one of the metal washers and try that. We did, plate fit on a little more, though it still doesn't set in completely. We ground 5 pounds of chicken, like we normally do. Definitely less black *goo*. Make sure to follow their instructions of using meat that is semi-frozen, which we do. I will continue to elevate the back a little bit. All in all, I think this is a nice little grinder, and customer service at the company is great. Update Nov. 30, 2018: I've had the grinder 2 years now. In the beginning I would grind some chicken drumsticks but didn't continue that. I've been using powdered eggshell for calcium in my food batches instead of the bone. Anyway, I've been grinding boneless skinless meat almost 2 years now. Had an issue last year (2017) that customer service was great with in replacing a part with the right washers. Thanks customer service! I am hoping now that I have only had this 2 years and using it often (twice a week) but with just meat, the solution will be as simple. I was grinding boneless pork this morning and the head started clicking and moved with the click about 4 times as I was putting meat down the shoot. I stopped, unplugged, took it apart and then reassembled, thinking perhaps I didn't have something on tight enough. Started it up, and there was an ever so slight smell of something burning. I stopped and was wiping the unit down. When I turned it over, there looked like something was clogging the back vent. I looked at it closer and it was filled with a big gob of a jelly substance. I took 2 videos and emailed customer service this morning at STXInternational. Waiting to hear from them now. Will update the results here

Cheap junk!
This thing is a joke! I have had it for 3 months and used it only three times, followed all the instructions for this machine on making raw dog food only used soft chicken bones and it already gave out, cheap piece of junk! I have been making raw dog food for 2 years and this thing was not worth the cost. I had to go buy a new one with more power. I will never buy from this company again rip off! I added a picture of this machine and the new one you can see how under powered this thing is and cheaply made, but I took them at there word that this would do the job. They only give you 30 days to return it, oh! I wonder why. Do yourself a favor and spend the money on the better one at least you wonโt lose almost 200 dollars I lost on this one.

Don't be deterred by the negatives! This affordable grinder does it's job perfectly.
My husband and I recently became owners of a Bengal cat. The breeder suggested this grinder among others to purchase. I probably scoured the internet for a week trying to find the perfect grinder for me. Despite some of the negative reviews which I felt were to some part uncalled for, I decided to purchase this one. I am not disappointed. I was quite nervous using it because it was my first time grinding raw chicken. The instructions are quite simple. You can grind chicken, squirrel, quail and rabbit bones, however, you will have to do a double grind which you are able to do with the multiple plates they provide. I grind 10 lbs of chicken thighs which I prepare by cutting into smaller pieces. After I am done cutting, I will put it all in the freezer so that it will get as cold as possible to facilitate easier grinding. The grinding process does not take very long. The first time around, I processed the chicken three or four times so it took a little longer. The second time around, I only processed it through twice and my cat still eats it so I will be doing that from now on. The slicing of the chicken thighs is the longest step. The cleaning process was quite easy too. I'm not sure why some may have found it tedious because everything slid off without a problem. I used warm water and soap and immediately dried off. My husband did not know this process and put all the parts in the dishwasher. Needless to say, he ruined them. I contacted the company in hopes of receiving new parts. We were willing to pay since it was our mistake. We promptly received an email from the owner of the company. They acknowledged our mistake and graciously replaced our parts at no additional cost. I recommend emailing the company first and giving them a few days to a week to reply. The machine is definitely loud but it's expected. I use foamies or headphones to listen to music while grinding. Bottom line, don't be deterred by the negative reviews. Some of them are a few years old and I feel the company may have fixed some of the issues they claimed to have had. Follow the instructions!! I have one cat so this grinder is perfect for me. This grinder is super affordable and delivers on every promise.

STAY FAR FAR AWAY. NO WARRANTY!
Do not buy this brand!!! ESPECIALLY if you're from Canada. You have to pay for shipping if it breaks (and it will definitely break)! Even shipping within the US is going to be pricey. Alternative is to buy the parts and repair it yourself which voids the warranty! .. Just not worth it. Buy a good brand like LEM or Weston.
