Samsung Galaxy S 4 For Dummies 1st Edition

The folks at the phone store got me started on my first smart phone, but I walked away shaking my head and wondering if I'd ever remember all they showed me. At 64... it was a major step for me! I came home and checked out the one page instruction sheet that came with the S4 and realized it didn't scratch the surface. I looked for user guides online and when this popped up, I knew it was where I needed to start. It was at my door in a few short days and I am SO GLAD I have it! It is set up so yes... even a "dummy" like me could figure it out. Step by step, simple and easy to follow instructions for every function the phone offered lay at my fingertips. The phone does things I'll probably never have need for, but there if I need it. I could have gone back to the store for help (and may if I need to), but I am enjoying discovering one thing at a time, when I need it, at my own speed. I recommend this for anyone with their first smart phone in their hand... and wondering "What do I do now?" You can't go wrong!

Has good info, worth getting, but hardly tells you but a small fraction of knowledge you need to use your phone like a pro. I read a bit of it and have spent lots of time fooling around with my phone. I don't know of a better book, there is just so much to learn when learning a new system.

I'm long time smartphone user and a pretty tech-savvy person. Who would have guessed that I used only about 25% of the features of the Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. This books suits me and my busy schedule. When I have a chance, I jump to a new section and review it. I sometimes even review sections on topics I use all the time to get new tips and see if I missed anything. The book is well organized and easy to pick out new topics. My husband, the super-techy, even enjoyed reading many of the sections and getting new tips

My first experience a 'dummies' book, my second with a mobile phone and I'm just starting to use the internet. The phone is fantastic but I am rather disappointed with this book. It doesn't have a glossary of the different icons - something I expected. Many appear along the top of the phone; the phone itself lists some but not enough. [Go to Settings > My device (along the top) > Display > Notification panel] And, the book should cover how to personalize which ones are shown. The book is too wordy; almost a quarter of the words are unnessary 'fillers' and should be removed. The index at the back of the book is not detailed enough; many more cross references and more descriptive entries are needed. I don't know that any other book is better. All is all, I could easily have learned quite easily by myself (no help from others) and without this book but I felt I needed a security blanket.

Smart phones are like a computer. You will never need to learn all the possibilities a phone can perform. This manual guides you thru the basics, giving useful tips to becoming more efficient. If you need to do something more obscure, it's easy to use the index to learn the best way to get the job done. Even if you've used a smart phone before - this will give you tips you probably would not have discovered. It will definitely save you time to get running at full speed.

If you just bought a Galaxy S 4 AND it's your first smart phone then you will find this Dummies guide extremely helpful. It will get you through the basics of both the phone and features of any smart phone that you will want to do first - make a phone call, send a text message, take a picture, and download an app or game. If you are just upgrading to the S 4 from another smart phone, even an iPhone, then this is not the "droid" you're looking for. It is way too basic, and never really gets into the new and unique features of the S 4. It does spend a fair amount of time on the touch screen and controls and gestures, which is good. One brief sentence on "beaming" files from one phone to another will leave novices scratching their heads. It tells you how to turn on NFC and S Beam, but after that you are on your one. Not one mention of the Multi Screen feature, not one? Most of the middle chapters could have been lifted out of any Dummies guide for a current Android phone without even changing the screen shots. If you are looking from something that gets into the real technical details, will help you be the master of the new features and personalize your new S4 to really make it your own, this is not the place to look. A pretty good book for beginners. It still leaves some questions unanswered such as how can I get a better view of the indicator at the top of the screen that is supposed to tell me the signal strength, I think. I also want to shut off the features that seem to automatically reach out for data which is OK at home but I don't want to automatically get data when I am out of the USA for a couple of weeks. I haven't found that information yet.

amust book if you're trying to figure out your phone, very helpful book. My last phone was a mersimer, it took me some time to understand it, in fact whene i first got it I hated it, but the more i understand it i liked it, same goes for yhis new samsung galaxy 4! All they give you when you buy your phone is a little book with the basic! HA!

I am not ashamed to but dummy books as they have helped me over the years. I bought the new Samsung Galaxy S4 and was completely lost as I have only had old phones until now. So much to learn of what this little PC does is amazing and following the book I have now mastered the smart phone. Don't struggle, get the book or rip you're hair out!

I liked that it shows me most of the features of my new phone. Some information that I was looking for is not in the book because all carriers are different.I did order another book to help with the Samsung Tab 3 and have not received it yet. I think it was to ship Dec.28
