Povidone Iodine Ointment (often called Betadine Ointment) is, microbiologically, the VERY BEST antiseptic for use on the skin theo both treat and prevent skin infections. Commonly used agents, such as 70% alcohol and hydrogen peroxide, are good, but they are not "broad spectrum" enough; that is, they do not act on a wide variety of potential microbial pathogens. Iodine-containing agents, like this one, act on just about EVERY type of bacterium and fungus/yeast that one is likely to encounter on the skin. Another problem with such agents as alcohol and hydrogen peroxide is that they will kill off SOME of the potential infecting agents only, leaving others unaffected to "overgrow" and cause what is known as superinfections. Again, iodine-containing antiseptics can prevent this from happening because of their wide spectrum of activity against skin potential pathogens (= infection-causing microbes).

It is good for the itching

This ointment really works. I had a cut on my hand and it was pretty painful. Put some of this on and the next day the cut was closed up and didn't hurt anymore. Good stuff.

I use it to make a wound compound of beading solution, beading ointment and sugar. This is convenient and is a decent price a4nd I received it quickly

My doctor wanted me to use this product on a wound. She recommended another brand which was $12 more. This product has the same ingredients but is much cheaper. Works great. Fulfillment was very fast.

I had used betadine ointment for various cuts scrapes etc for decades and then it disappeared. This is that product and as long as you are not allergic to iodine( which is the base for the product) I encourage you to try it. Well priced well packaged
