THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER THE USA TODAY BESTSELLER Bestselling author Marie Benedict reveals the story of a brilliant woman scientist only remembered for her beauty. Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side and understood more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star. But she kept a secret more shocking than her heritage or her marriage: she was a scientist. And she had an idea that might help the country fight the Nazis and revolutionize modern communication...if anyone would listen to her. A powerful book based on the incredible true story of the glamour icon and scientist, The Only Woman in the Room is a masterpiece that celebrates the many women in science that history has overlooked. This book will not be what you expect!
I have given this book 3 out of 4 stars. If I could have given it 3.5 stars, I would have, but that wasn't possible. I don't, off hand, know if I have watched a film with Hedy Lamarr in it, I may have done, but none comes to mind. Likewise, her physical appearance doesn't come to mind either...a bit before my time maybe? Although, the book was well researched and interesting in parts, there were other parts that seem to go on and on, if only I could have taken those parts out, or squashed them together, the book wouldn't have suffered from the midway slump that it did.

Good read
So well written. Enough description that you can imagine the setting but not used as padding for the main story. Neither is the story drawn out, it moves at such a good pace. Well worth reading

WI CAMP HOLLYWOOD THEMED BOOK CLUB READ
It's not a book I would have read otherwise. Made me want to read more widely about her real-life story and check the "facts" against the author's fiction.

But not for long
I learned so much about trials of the people in Europe before WWII. Hedy was a strong and brave woman. The author wrote this book with great compassion and understanding. Now I'm going to find a Hey Lamar's movie to watch.

Tema y personajes interesantes.
Es supuestamente una biografía novelizada. Me habría gustado que no estuviera escrita de una manera tan "light". La sentí como una novela para adolecentes.
