An absolute must-have for Xeriscapers!
After numerous trips the library and Barnes & Noble, I have come to the conclusion that Xeriscape Colorado is the definitive resource for responsible landscaping in Colorado. Here in Pueblo West the windy, dry, clay-packed soil had me returning plants to Home Depot on almost a weekly basis. I have landscaped the east side of the home (a wee bit cooler but also windier than the western exposure) in more traditional plants, trees, and shrubs, however in the back I utilized the theories and suggestions from Xeriscape Colorado and have had great success! As I only water 1X/week, all of my plantings are thriving, and the only loss I sustained is when I blatantly ignored the book and decided to plant a lilac, you can imagine how well that turned out! So getting to the crux of it all, this book has replaced my Western Garden Guide to become my new Gardening Bible.

Great book for all my questions!
I was skeptical since itโs an older book but I really like it. It has all the information I could ever want and tons of charts to reference. I believe Iโll use this book many times. I am totally new to landscaping and xeriscape and this book is exactly what I need.

I love this book!
I love this book! As a first-time gardener in the Denver suburbs, I was overwhelmed by the idea of landscaping our first house. Patio plants were the extend of my knowledge, but I knew I'd want to plant perennials in a logical way that use as little water as possible. I also want my landscape to look beautiful. This book is packed with great advice, logical sequences for planning and design and maintenance, and a friendly, conversational you-can-do-this tone that make it accessible and useful. It also has tons of gorgeous photos to give me plenty of ideas as my yard (and gardening skills) mature.I'm so grateful for this book!

An answer to Colorado's dry areas
This was helpful in defining what plants I could use in planting beds. Discovering the East, West, North, South sides of my property I learned what would grow best in each area. Very helpful.

You don't have to have a yard full of rocks
We've been in drought conditions for years and our dead dry grass yard was not only ugly, it presented a fire hazard from thoughtless motorists throwing out cigarettes. I didn't want to have a yard full of lifeless rocks and this book let me realize that we could have a beautiful yard full of plants. We combined the ideas from this book with information about drought-resistant plants from the book Dryland Gardening: Plants that Survive and Thrive in Tough Conditions. We now have the prettiest yard in the neighborhood and we aren't wasting water on grass.

Great photos, nice for inspiration.
I really love looking at this book. I'd tried to find good resources on the web but it's hard to consider how a plant will look in your garden when you see the individual pictures. This one ties the landscape together with before and after photos and how to's.

Great book. Yes
Great book. Yes, the photoshopped pictures are somewhat cheesy, but who has 5 years to wait for the plants to 'fill-in'. I like the zone-specific species breakdown. Helps you make the right choice the first time.
