There is a "chirper" that you can turn on and off to listen to the cosmic ray backgound radiation like a geiger counter.

If you're in the Fukushima area and want to know if you're in a significantly contaminated Cs-137 zone this will work just fine.For anything else you should pay the money to get real equipment. The active volume of the detector is small so in normal background conditions you will see about one count per minute. That is far to slow to make measurements with any precision.

The counter is really small and easy to handle.It seems really accurate after at least one minute of detection.It uses an AA battery also if it is recommended to use a rechargeable battery if planning to use daily.The only minus is the manual that it seems to be accurate and well written but it's only in japanese.

But this is a long time to be holding hands on the money is worth. This love is a gift for anyone, especially since the events in Japan it will be must-haves. I care about the actions of Japan and its indifference ...

The Japanese dispatch note says the value is 571 JPY which converts to 4.4 pounds. I paid 44 pounds!!!!!! Comments please.It works OK so the rating is for the item and not the charge.

The detector gives readings above background when tested on a fluorescent light tube or thorium mantle for a camping light.I don't have any stronger source to test it on.
