what is the width of the trivets, it says 2.3 inches? Also do they have feet on the Botton so it won't slide and if so, what are the feet made of ?

6.5 inch square and 6.5 diameter. No feet on bottom. The two round trivets came apart and had to be glued.

What is the black strips that came with it?

There are two sets: sets of 3 and 4 circle lifts to prevent scratching and over-heating of surfaces from the wood. The sets of 3 are for the circle trivets placed in a equilateral triangle close to the edges. The set of 4 is to be placed on the square trivets either per corner or edge.

Will the rack hold a slightly wider cutting board, if I wanted it to?

Not at all. The holder is very flimsy. The rubber feet on the trivets started peeling off within a couple os uses. And overall It takes up valuable counter space. We eventually got rid of the rack and put the trivets in a drawer. Eventually we’ll get rid of them altogether and just buy another couple of the space saving expandable ones. They turned out to be much better quality and easier to clean and store.

I want to make black garlic - it is done in a rice steamer on "keep warm" setting. will these hold up to that setting?

I don’t think so. I got them to protect my table.
