Great for exercise and swing training
I saw the video of this that showed golfers using this to warm up before teeing off. Well, I decided to try it. This is what I thought of it: Pros: 1. Great for warming up - Instead of just doing stretching, I take this out of my bag and swing this about 20 times to warm up. It does loosen me up specially for the first hole. 2. Great for Lag Training - It naturally gives you that feel of lag, and is starting to show up in my golf swing. It is starting to be more automatic now. 3. Improved my accuracy - My grouping is much tighter now. My swing used to be very erratic, I could cast the club sometimes and really ruin my day, but this has reduced that now. 4. Gives you the feeling of what a proper swing should feel like - Once I got accostomed to the sensation of a proper swing, I am beginning to change my swing to match that. It is a work in progress as I still have a wicked slice that shows up at the worst times, but I have seen my hitting improve. 5. Great tempo trainer - That is the biggest difference with my swing now. I now know what proper tempo is supposed to be. It has improved my swing. 6. Great workout - I use this as a workout. I really try to set aside time to just just swing with this. I do feel that I am stronger and can hit the ball with less effort now. Cons: 1. Length - This is longer than the standard clubs so give yourself some space and make sure you dont hit anyone. Summary It really does what it says it is supposed to do. My swing has improved in tempo, lag and power. I swing it many times a day and is a really good swing coach. I have other swing trainers but this is the one I use the most since lag and tempo are my real weakness. *****UPDATE June 27, 2013***** I still use the 48 inch trainer all the time to practice my drives and fairway woods. But, I needed to get a shorter one to simulate my irons and Hybrid. So I bought the 40 inch trainer as well. I tell you that this is really an excellent workout. Not only do you get to improve the tempo and lag of your swing, but you also break a sweat. I only take the 48 inch to the course because my driver is the one that scares me the most and this gives me some confidence before taking the Big Dog out of the bag. I still warm up with this before playing and while we are waiting for the slower flight ahead of us. My slice is gone from my irons and hybrid thanks to this. My driver is another matter. I still slice about half my drives, down from when I used to slice ALL my drives. It usually happens on holes where I did not have any time to practice with this before driving. My driving distance has improved between 10 to 20 yards as well. I have other Swing trainers but this is the only one I take with me to the golf course.

save time and money on your swing.
This tool will help train your body about swing plane, pausing at the top of the take away and lag on the way down, which helps you to "strike down" on the ball, all of which a PGA instructor would eventually teach you about, but why pay to hear about something, when this thing help teach your body about? It really helps you to begin to feel the bowing of the shafts of your club(s), this sensitivity will only add to your game. Because it is heavier than your driver it will also strengthen your swinging muscles and no doubt add distance to your drives along with helping with greater flexibility which will carry over to your whole game. Also great for warm up before practice or play. If you're new, take a lesson and focus exclusively, and I mean exclusively on grip, posture and the initial part of the take away, once you've got this down, use this to get a feel for the rest and start hitting balls at the range. Then go to youtube to learn about hitting the various clubs regarding ball position, also to learn how to fade, draw etc and how to turn correctly, coiling, loading and releasing. If you still need help with your driver, you might consider the SKLZ "refiner pro" device. There may be some things that training aids cannot teach you, but in my experience they can help save allot of time on lessons, frustration at the range, and get you making better shots on the course. I also like that I am not throwing allot of money at a guy to teach me something, at least this way I have a physical product that I own to show for the money invested. Like I said "YOUTUBE" baby!

This is an excellent warm-up, stretch, and tempo trainer, at half the price of its main competitor!
This is an excellent warm-up, stretch, and tempo trainer. It definitely has help my rhythm and turn as well as helping me create a bit more lag at the top of my swing. It's hard to beat at half the price of its main competitor! The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is the fact that it can't be re-gripped with is bothersome for two reasons: 1) I have large hands and would prefer to put an oversize grip on it to match what I play and 2) While it certainly won't wear at the same rate as my swing grips, it will eventually wear to the point that it requires replacement. However, as I said earlier, it's still a great buy at half the cost of the other big-name weighted-whip style trainer on the market.

It helped me, it could help you
I have the trainer for about 2 weeks now. I have been using it in my backyard a couple times a day. I am 60 years old in great shape but I've lost a lot of flexabilty; the Gold Flex really helps with this and has increased my range of motion on the back swing. I also live near a driving range and go there about 3 times a week. The first few times I went there after using Gold Flex I was a bit frustrated; I had some improvement, a little more distance and better follow through, but nothing major. Then yesterday at the range I took my driver, setup, relaxed and specifically tried to emulate that backswing I used with the Gold Flex. I connected, and holy smokes, the ball went sailing about 270 yards, and I was only hitting 230 yards when I conneced before. I teed up another ball and right up the middle, then 2 more, all at least 270 yards and dead straight or with a slight fade. All summer I have been going to the range and hadn't been able to drive further than 230 yards, but within a couple of weeks with this product I was able to put together a pretty decent swing. For me it was all about that transition at the top off the swing, and keeping the right temp to generate that lag. I'm not writing this review to brag, I people hit i way further than me. I writing it because I thing it is a great product and may be able to help another frustrated old golfer if you are willing to put he time and thouht into it.

Surprising Results
This is the first swing trainer of any kind I have ever tried and was skeptical when I bought it, but desperate to try something to improve my swing speed, tempo, follow through and weight shift. The first thing I noticed when swinging the Gold Flex were the muscles that were being used and how they were being stretched, and eventually strengthened, by the weight of the trainer. The second thing I noticed was that my swing speed on the takeaway was too fast and the transition from backswing to downswing was starting too early. This trainer is an excellent tool for identifying areas of your swing that are out of sync and the weight of the trainer literally forces the proper follow through and weight transfer. Besides working kinks out of your swing, this has to be one of the best tools for strengthening and improving extension of the muscles used in the golf swing. A word of warning: don't go overboard with the trainer the first couple of days you have it or you may have some sore muscles! Long story short, I have had the Gold Flex swing trainer for about a month and I am hitting shots longer and straighter than ever before, especially off of the tee. I swing it 10 - 12 times at home before I head to the course to get the feel of the proper tempo and to loosen up the muscles used in the swing. I was always the guy that was the shortest, and wildest, off the tee with the driver. Now I am consistently in the fairway and occasionally hear a "wow" after connecting with the driver. On one par 3, I was hitting a 5 iron at the start of the year and now hit an 8. On another par 3 I was hitting a 3 wood off the tee to start the year and am now hitting a 4 iron. Based on the results I have experienced, I would highly recommend Gold Flex Trainer.

Excellent swing trainer!
I am into golf training aids lately after being a steady player for 20+ years. I have tried some that seemed to help but just were to cumbersome while others frankly did not help at all. This thing is as advertised! I like that it does not overwork your body and the very thing that helps your swing (lag) also helps keep it from hurting you. It is good to warm up with prior to starting a round and I grab it almost everyday if for only 15-20 reps. It is for all skill levels and I think prolonged use can only keep the driver distance going up. If you are only spending $50 on a training aid this year then you have found the one. Update: During my last round I found myself in the follow-through position more than ever which is directly related to this trainer because it keeps you turning past impact. Just one more reason to locve it. Hit'em straight Friends :-)

A good training and strengthening device for speed, balance, and swinging on plane with good rhythm and timing. Worth the money
This is not a complicated device. Like most amateur golfers who don't practice enough, I tend to go over the top and bleed off the speed before I contact the ball. At least I do this too often. When I do hit the ball well, it feels great! The idea with this trainer is that it is so flexible, long and heavy at the end that you must swing hard, in a way that accelerates through the ball, and on plane or all kinds of bad things happen. I certainly can feel more clearly when I am in good balance as I swing, too. Another benefit is that the regular club feels small, light, and powerful after I get this thing under control. One thing I noticed, as well, is that if I start with just the normal back swing the Gold Flex tends to flex on the take away, but if I press forward first and then swing back, the take away feels more complete and smooth and natural. But that may just be me. But swinging through as hard as I can manage five or six times takes some strength so I imagine it is not only training my muscle sense but actually building some strength in the all the turning muscles from my feel up. After a half dozen or so swings, I switch to a regular club, say, a six iron, and it feels GREAT. Then I go back to the Gold Flex for several more swings and then back to the regular club. I also believe that the key here is to do this a bit every day rather than over doing it once a week. The idea is to train and build through repetition and feel and memory rather than exhaustion. Right?

Think I like it, but it may have exacerbated injury
I bought this around Christmas when it was on sale to help with my golf game. I like the trainer in the way it feels. I can see where it will help my tempo and my strength. For a few rounds I put it in the bag to use as part of my warmup routine. BUT, around the same time I was using it I was also doing a workout routine and somewhere between the two of them I ended up with tricep tendonitis. As I was researching tricep tendonitis I read that golf downswings can exacerbate or cause tendonitis problems. I am not saying it caused the problem, but I stopped using it and stopped exercising to let my arm heal. I haven't started either back up, but I am about to. If you don't overdo it with this trainer, and if you warm up and stretch properly, I think you'll do fine. Once I'm back up and running again, I'll update my review. I know I'll be taking it easy first few times out with this. Update 11.11.13 I really like this SKLZ Gold Flex trainer. In retrospect, I still can't say if this trainer contributed to my tricep tendonitis or not. At the time I was using it I was also working out and perhaps overdoing the use of my arms in general. I doubt this caused an injury, but it may have been one piece of overdoing it. I still recommend stretching before swinging this to get your muscles warmed up. I didn't play golf much this summer with a move and a new job, but as I've started back up this fall, this trainer has been great. I had a pretty bad slice with my driver as I started back up, but in working with the trainer, I managed to straighten out my ball flight and get distance. I did a little work on the range, but the best results came when I used it for practice swings on the tee box on the holes I was using my driver. I didn't do it every time, but noticed I tended to hit better drives when I warmed up with it. I am still very pleased to have this trainer. I highly recommend it.

This really works and it works well.
I've tried numerous training aids but none really worked - UNTIL THIS. If you struggle with tempo, rhythm and lag this will work wonders. There is no magic, no learning curve. Just go on you tube and watch videos for this (or the Orange Whip which costs twice as much) and it will set a proper tempo in your swing. Practices with it for two days then went out and shot my lowest round in two years. Have continued to practice with it and am leaving on a golf trip in the Muskoka's shortly and will follow up to report if that was a fluke or if this is the real deal. Fits in golf bag like a regular club and legal to carry as 15th club (cuz it's not a club). As well as daily swings (just follow the program the Orange Whip guy has on YouTube) then take a few swings before each tee shot and you will be shocked. I feel like I'm swinging so much slower but have picked up 10 - 15 yards and with far greater accuracy off the tee (missed only one fairway last game), reached a 549 yard par 5 in 2 and cut my missed greens in half. Yes I know it's still early, but I think that if tempo is your issue you may find that this is your answer. I very highly recommend this.

Ne vale la pena
Direi ottimo acquisto. Il peso della testa è un buon mezzo per allenare i muscoli, può aiutare alla memorizzazione del movimento, sempre che sia quello corretto, ma per quello rivolgersi al proprio maestro. Poi in questa stagione di neve... è un must. Unico neo la guaina che ricopre lo shaft è arrivato con una piccola spellatura. Qualche appunto invece ai tempi di consegna il doppio di quelli proposti e anche qualche problema con il corriere, ma quando le cose iniziano ad andare storto.....

SKLZ Gold Swing Trainer - great golf training aid
I have been playing golf for about 4 years, had 1 lesson a few years ago and have a lot of bad golfing habits. Most of my golfing games are spent trying different feet, ball, body and swing variations to compensate for my poor golf swing, struggling trying to get my driver and iron shots consistent. I saw a video demonstrating the SKLZ Gold Flex swing trainer on You Tube and was impressed with the simplicity of the design and could see the nicely controlled flowing golf swings on show and could see the potential benefits, so I decided to buy it on Amazon. The Gold Flex I purchased is 48 inches long which is longer than my normal clubs. At first I thought that it was too long, However when I transferred from the Gold Flex to my normal clubs it did not hinder the lining up with the golf ball. When I first used the Gold Flex it felt a little clumsy and heavy but after a few swings I started to slow the swings down and let the Gold Flex do the work. The weight on the end of the Gold Flex naturally brings your hands/arms into a nice position on the back swing then it flexes behind your head ready for the down swing. Because the swing is slowed down I waited until the Gold Flex had come back over my shoulder on the down swing and could feel the right time to start to power down on the down swing. Where previously I believe I was trying to power back down to high on the down swing, I now practise with 15 swings with the Gold Flex then 15 swings alternating between my normal golf clubs, because of the weight of the Golf Flex I found when I started to swing my normal clubs they felt a lot lighter and easier to swing and my golf swing started to mirror the Golf Flex swing. I can now feel various parts of the golf swing, the start of the back swing from the ground, the hands/arms pulling back, a slight pause at the top of the swing, the start of the down swing and finally feeling the right time to start powering down and through the golf ball. Because the Gold Flex is weighted at the end I have found that it helps me transfer my body weight from my right leg to my left leg (right handed) and my hips and shoulders are forced to turn and now when swinging my normal golf club I can feel the same transfer of weight and body movement. The Gold Flex also lets you feel when your making errors in a swing, for example, if I straighten my legs from a slightly bent position lifting my body up during the swing the Gold Flex starts to wobble and the swing does not feel so smooth. The idea is to try and get the Gold Flex swinging backwards and forwards as smoothly as possible. After 3 days of practising with the Gold Flex and a lot more turning of the hips and shoulders which generates more swing power I have found parts of my body and muscles aching that I obviously was not using before, for example, stomach muscles, general back muscles, back of upper arm muscles, forearms muscles, thigh muscles and hips all aching which shows I have not been using these muscles much in my golf game. On the golfing range today I concentrated on my driver and 2 hybrid/baffler off a tee and ground to see if after only a few practises over the last 3 days there was any difference. With my driver and hybrid I was gaining about 20 to 25 yards and most of the shots were reasonably straight. After the golf range I went out on the course and tried to concentrate on the new swing and slowing it down, I could still feel the different parts of the swing and had some good shots mixed in with a few duff shots as the new swing felt good but took a bit of getting used too, I could feel better weight transfer and the potential for more powerful shots. I had to focus on the new swing and try not to slip back into the old swing and back to bad golfing habits I intend to practise with the Golf Flex for 30 minutes per day where possible transferring between the Gold Flex and my normal clubs. I can definitely feel improvements with my golf swing within 3 days and hopefully with a few more weeks practising and a few more games of golf it will pay off with a more consistent and powerful golf swing. I would recommend the Gold Flex to anyone who needs help with their golf swing, it is good for warming up before a game of golf and used regularly along with plenty of practise on the golf course hopefully improve your game.
