desertcart.com: House of Webster Wild Huckleberry Preserves 17.5 oz : Grocery & Gourmet Food Review: My Husbands Favorite Huckleberry Jam - Great Jam, nice and thick with great flavor. Review: Best preserves or jelly ever. - These preserves are delicious! We put it on bread, in yogurt and cottage cheese. You will not be disappointed. The reason itโs expensive the pickers have to fight bears for them. Seriously though they canโt be cultivated and are picked by hand from what I read.

Packed FULL of Huckleberries!!
These are wonderful preserves and full of whole berries. It just doesn't get better than this and these preserves are worth every penny you pay for them. The only other preserves that compare are Bonne Maman Extreme Blueberry but blueberries aren't as expensive or dear as Huckleberries so to find them in such abundance is a real treat. I can't recommend them enough. You really get to taste the huckleberry and find out what all the fuss is about. I used to pinch pennies on food but I refuse to do it after my husband retired. If we aren't going to eat well now, then when? As long as these are sold they will be in my pantry and I plan on giving them as gifts at Christmas with my homemade baked goods. I highly recommend them.

This is my favorite Huckleberry product.
I've tried 5 other Huckleberry jams/preserves over the last year. So far, this one is my favorite. This is as thick with Huckleberrys as I've had. The preserves are full of whole and mashed Huckleberries. Full of flavor. There is some added sweetner, but not much. It isn't nearly as sweet as some I've sampled, but just enough to enhance the natural flavor of the berries. The jar is simple and just the right size. You get more with this product than many of the other huckleberry products I've purchased over the last year. I think the volume / quantity is just right. I had no problems with my order and received the preserves promptlyand in good condition (unlike another reviewer who had issues). I usually eat this on toast and English muffins. I really like it there, slightly warmed. It goes well with cream cheese. I also tried it as a topping for vanilla ice cream and was quite pleased with the taste, although it was a little too thick to spread easily. It tasted great! It might also be good in baked products, although I haven't tried that yet.

I couldn't taste huckleberries at all ๐
I read so many reviews on various huckleberry jam/preserves brands, that my expectations for this brand were pretty high. This morning I was excited to open this jar and taste it on my toast. A beautiful deep purple-black color, loaded with huckleberries. But Wow, what a disappointment. I tasted nothing but SWEET. Even removing a whole berry, it was just way too sweet and the flavor, blah. No, not even blah, no flavor, just sweet. I was expecting huckleberry taste like when I used to go 'up the river' on a mountainside of N. Idaho and pick wild huckleberries with my parents, grandparents and my sister. We never made jam or preserves, but ate them raw with a little milk poured over them and a tiny bit of sugar. The sweet and tart huckleberry was unique and delicious, not overpowered by the milk or sugar. Perhaps the other reviews had family who made jams and preserves and that's why they like this brand. The ingredients on the jar: Wild Huckleberries, Sugar, Sucrose (a sugar composed of glucose and fructose), water, fruit pectin, citric acid. I almost bought 2 jars, one to send to my sister...so glad I didn't. I will finish this jar, but won't purchase again.

This is the Real Deal
When I was a little kid, my great-grandmother made huckleberry jams and preserves from wild huckleberries we'd pick in the woods. For some reason, huckleberries became harder and harder to find in the woods of East Texas, so those great jams and preserves fizzled out for us. Years later, I've found so many vendors from all over the country selling their homemade jellies, jams, and preserves at farmers' markets and produce stands, and I've always asked about huckleberry. However, most of them have never heard of a huckleberry outside of a Mark Twain novel or a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. Others have tried to tell me that huckleberry jam and wild blueberry jam are pretty much the same thing. NO THEY ARE NOT! Anyway, while looking around on Amazon for something completely different yesterday, I stumbled upon House of Webster Wild Huckleberry Preserves. A jar immediately made its way into my cart. I'm so glad it did. I received it today, and it is amazing! It's just like what I remember my great-grandmother making. It's not overly sweet but just sweet enough that you know you've got something sweet. Its flavor is also the one that I remember, a bit more subtle than that of blueberry. It's just good stuff! When I finish this jar, I will certainly be back for more. I'm also looking forward to trying some of House of Webster's other products.

Disappointed
I love Huckleberries and have picked them many times up in the mountains. So, when I ordered this jam I was anxious to recieve it. Boy, was I disappointed! I actually tasted it a couple times and ended up throwing it into the garbage.

Hard to find, but totally worth the effort
Great on biscuits, toast and pancakes. It's absolutely delicious, but just try finding it in your local store. It's an acquired taste and a old Southern jam for buttermilk biscuits or pancakes, especially buckwheat pancakes, Yes, there's really a thing called Buckwheat pancakes and is also an aquired taste. More people know about Huckleberry jam and don't mention anything about it. Please don't buy this because it's already difficult enough to find as it is, and the fewer people who buy this makes it easier for those of us who know how great Huckleberry jam truly is and bears love it too, seriously.
