The Singapore Story: Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew, Vol. 1

Very interesting and important factual account of a man, a country and a problem . Well worth reading. Maybe Boris Johnson should read it.?

Interesting perspective by the father of modern Singapore.

It explains how Lee kept Singapore out of communist hands an how the Malaysian leader expelled him. I am now going to read the next volume about how Singapore rose from a third world country to a first world country. After that, I intend to read a volume by someone else that puts forward the view that Singapore's 'repressive' laws infringe their citizen's rights. I cannot comment more until then!

Following a 3 day visit to Singapore for the first time, it was great to read the memoirs of this outstanding statesman and the progress made since independence by this country.

Interesting description about he rose to power, partly in alliance with the Malayan Communist Party, but able in the end to get the better of them. Very interesting about the different communities, including several different sorts of Chinese, some English educated, some educated in Mandarin and some speaking Hokkien, a separate Chinese dialect.

A must read. Other countries, and individuals can learn a lot from this excellent book

Having a great experience reading the biography of Lee Kwan Yew who must be one of , if not the best leader of any country in the world of all time. No exaggeration. My mum was Singaporean Indonesian and is in fact a relative of Mr Lee. Mother's Grandmother and Lee's Grandmother were sisters on their maternal side.Akways felt immensely proud of Singapore and what Lee was able to achieve in 1 generation. Lee's writing is superb. highly intelligent yet down to earth, knowledgeable yet compassionate and humane- exactly the man he was.. Brings me to tears knowing Lee and his much loved and respected wife are no longer on this earth. They no longer make people like Lee and his generation.Thankyou Amazon for bringing Lee to the world today with kindle.

By going through this book, I can tell that Lee Kuan Yew has put effort and passion in writting it. I have always knew that Lee Kuan deserved respect for what he has done of Singapore, but I was not aware that he fought so hard to build a multi racial society. I recommend highly this book!!
