Solid construction and well weighted.
This is a great sledgehammer for fitness use. Single-body solid construction and well weighted. If you're a trainer, you know the importance of protecting yourself legally with clients. Hammers designed for use in demolition are not designed for fitness purposes, so it is possible that the head of the hammer comes loose or that a client hits either themselves or another with the implement. If this happens, the first legal question will be whether or not the hammer was being used for its intended purpose. This is why it is mandatory to use implements designed for their use. This hammer by Apollo fits the bill perfectly. I plan on purchasing heavier models as well. You shouldn't be disappointed with this purchase.

Better for safety than a two piece sledge hammer!
We use sledge hammers with our personal training and group fitness classes. Two piece hammers eventually break or get loose and become a safety risk. The Apollo Athletics Steel Sledgehammer is one piece. The head and handle are welded together. Very nice.

What do I hit?
I've had a 20lb and a 30lb Apollo hammer. I mostly struck a tree stump, until the heads of both hammers respectively fell off. I think these are actually great hammers, I just ordered another 30lb. However, hitting a tire seems to be the only option to preserve the life of the hammer. Are there any viable alternatives to strike that won't break? I'm looking for something denser so it will be more difficult...

Great but hard to use without grip.
Okay, so I’m currently practicing for the CPAT for Henrico’s Fire Department and the weight of this sledge hammer is exactly what we work with. The ONLY problem I have with this is the fact that there’s no grip! It’s awful to practice with if you’re not handy! I personally slapped some electrical tape on it and now it’s perfect. I was able to cut down on my pressure sensor portion of the test from 26 hits to 8 hits! Thanks to practicing with this sledge hammer on my own time. Thanks for a great product- and maybe work on adding a grip for the next production line.
