TIE TCX110 Condenser Instrument Microphone for Guitar

Arrived some days ago but was unable to use it immediately because the advert had not made it clear that it is ESSENTIAL to combine it with the special TIE Phantom Power Supply Adapter. This is because these microphones only require 2-10V Phantom supply NOT the standard 48V Phantom as delivered by most mixers etc. I soon discovered they absolutely WILL NOT function with 48V and you have to use the adapter such as the TIE TXLRD3 or similar. The mic would only produce sound during power-up and power-down as the phantom supply slowly passed between zero and 48V and back. This was confirmed with two different devices delivering a 48V phantom supply. I was somewhat annoyed about this because none of the adverts I found on the web make this clear and initially I simply purchased a mini-XLR to XLR to format adapter not realising that the issue is more complicated than just the connector type. Even the manual supplied did not specifically state that the special adapter is essential. I got suspicious when I read the "specifications" bit of the manual and noted a rather strange reference to "Output Voltage DC 2-10V". 2-10V is NOT the output voltage but the supply voltage for the condenser pre-amp inside the mic. There is nothing on the TIE website that makes this mandatory requirement clear. So my £37 microphone suddenly became a £63 purchase!!! So after all that, having now got my TIE Phantom adapter, it all worked correctly. I think the only comment I would make is that the goose-neck could have been a little longer and slightly less inclined to keep trying to straighten up! I'm using it on a Jumbo 12-string guitar (large) and need the mic head to remain a bit closer to the sound-hole instead of slowly creeping away; I may need to engineer an elastic band mechanism to pull it down a bit more!

Dear Amazon, I did not use the microphone because the cable was not compatible with our instruments and speakers. The cable is way too thin and fragile and I would like to return this product and have my money back. Kind regards, Maria

Once I’d sussed out the stuff the seller doesn’t tell you, I finally got this to work. Sort of. The output is so low I had to shout into it to register anything. Signal to noise is practically nonexistent. Avoid. Website doesn’t answer you either.

Awful sound. Go for a make you've heard of, this one is worse than those cheap piezo mics.

On first view this looks perfect if you're after a mic and clamp for acoustic guitar amplification as I was. They're aren't too many of these around and this looked ok at not too bad a price. My one concern was that the connection type wasn't shown or specified anywhere, but after a little research I found it was a mini XLR Female for which an adapter could be bought separately to convert to standard XLR Female for connection to amp/mixing desk etc (the adapter was £5 or so, so I wasn't unduly worried). However, after purchasing the adaptor and setting it all up, still no sound! After further research it seems that a phantom power supply is also required (again no mention of this in any description), and the manufacturer TIE make a specific one for these mics in the same configuration as the XLR connection adaptor that I'd already bought! So I'm now waiting for this further purchase to arrive, and hopefully this thing will finally work! We're not all electronic engineers or sound experts, and if something isn't going to work on its own without the purchase of additional items/products then that should really be specified and highlighted in the description. So I've now spent almost another £30 in an endeavour to get my original purchase just to function, and for some that might have been enough to stop them buying the product in the first place. So in the case of TIE TCX110, both the manufacturer and Amazon could do much better in respect of their product description. So, in summary, as it isn't specified anywhere, I'm enclosing a photo of the mic's end connection, which is mini XLR Female. But buying the adaptor only to convert this to standard XLR Female is not enough to get the mic to work, you will also need a phantom power supply as well. I do hope this assists any prospective buyers of the TIE TCX110.

Ojo, descripción incompleta del artículo. Está claro que al ser un micro de condensador necesitas alimentación phantom. Pero como la clavija que lleva es mini xlr, o tienes una petaca o si quieres conectarlo a la mesa necesitas un adaptador. El adaptador tiene que ser activo porque el micro no funciona con phantom 48v estándar (me he puesto en contacto con el fabricante y lo único a lo que me remite es al adaptador que venden ellos, no dice cuanto voltaje necesita), por lo que al precio del micro tienes que sumarle otros 29 euros. Es decir que el micro son unos 95 euros para uso con mesa de mezclas. No puedo decir si capta bien el sonido porque ni me planteo comprar el adaptador que vale casi la mitad que el micro. Mi valoración es en relación a la falta de información sobre el artículo. No estoy nada satisfecho con la compra por lo que lo devolveré. Mi primera mala experiencia 🙁

Non viene specificato che senza un adattatore da mini XLR a XLR che supporta i 12v del microfono, non funziona. Non basta una scheda con ingresso phantom 48v.
