This text offers the reader an opportunity to become more educated in the theories of myofascial pain and more specifically, myofascial trigger points (MTrP). Chapters are dedicated to explaining the molecular theory of myofascial pain, a brief review of MTrP history and their etiologies and perpetrating factors. Objective evidence using the scientific approach is offered for the reliability of MTrP palpation and treatment using both non-invasive and dry needling techniques. The author does utilize the case report method in a chapter and has another chapter dedicated to unresolved issues and possible future directions. All chapters have numerous references consisting of reputable peer-reviewed journal articles and texts. If you are or plan to be treating MTrP, this text is an absolute requirement to have!

Informative, well thought out approach to Dry needling. I bought this prior to taking Dr Gerwin's excellent course through Myopain seminars. Recommend both highly!

This comprehensive book is perfect for both new and seasoned practitioners. The writing style is easy to read and extremely informative. I have gained further insight into myofascial pain and trigger points. The authors have included recent research and scientific advances as well as a complete explanation of the diagnosis and treatment of myofascial trigger points. Although not an instruction manual, Dommerholt and Huijbregts' text will help you to treat your patients more successfully and comprehensively. There is discussion about treating the perpetuating factors that can prevent full or lasting relief from pain. I highly recommend this book to any pain practitioner.

Overall, the content of the book is excellent with the most up to date literature, but I was very disappointed when looking through the book to realize that 7 out 10 of the "chapters" were nothing more than full text articles from various manual therapy journals, many of which I already have read. That being said, it is reasonably priced and it is nice to have all of the information in one place rather than several pdf files of articles.

I utilized this book in order to copmlete my inservice report on dry needling and myofascial trigger points and found it to be very thorough on both topics. Vast majority of the negative reviews are written by acupuncurists and judging by the similar grammar mistakes - the same person. Great buy, well worth your money and time.

After purchasing and reading this text, I was a bit disturbed to realize that I have access to almost every article in it. While the articles represent good research, the book is not worth the price when I can get them all free. I also dislike the fact that the author seems to discount acupuncture as a valid medical system. While trigger point dry needling as represented in this text is of Western origin stemming from Travell's and Simonds' work, it is possible that it is found in oriental medicine as well. This is not a territorial issue for me either, as a number of the other reviews are definitely representative of, as I am a physical therapist that also holds a PhD in neuroscience. I have personally been treated by an OMD in Winnipeg, Manitoba for migraines after western approaches failed successfully. I also find it funny that the only 5 Star Review comes from an individual that has completed the sequence of courses offered by Dr. Dommerholt and Dr. Peter Huijbregts. I gave this text two stars because I paid for a collection of articles that I already had and have read for free, and it seems to try to degrade another professional field to advance a technique which can actually stand on its own merit.

Excellent book for evidence based treatment of patients with pain and the use of trigger point dry needling. Organized and up to date informative articles for clinicians. Great reference to have in the clinic.
