Fantastic wood filler—easy to use, dries fast, and goes on pink so you know exactly when it’s ready!
DAP Plastic Wood-X with DryDex has become one of my go-to repair products. The pink-to-natural color change is super helpful—there’s no guessing whether it’s dry. Once cured, it sands very smoothly and blends seamlessly with the surrounding wood. It’s great for filling nail holes, dents, deep gouges, or even small structural repairs. The texture is thick but spreads easily, and it doesn’t shrink or crack the way some fillers do. It also takes paint and stain well, especially if you sand it down properly. The 5.5 oz tube is convenient for small and medium projects, and the squeeze format makes application clean and simple without needing to open a whole container. If you need a reliable wood filler for DIY repairs, furniture touch-ups, trim work, or woodworking projects, this one performs consistently and gives professional-looking results. Highly recommended!

Easy to Work With and Dries Strong
The DAP 540 Natural Plastic Wood filler is one I’ve used a few times now, and it always performs well. It spreads smooth, fills gaps and holes clean, and dries to a solid finish that sands easy. The color blends nicely with most woods, especially once stained or painted. It doesn’t crack or shrink like some cheaper fillers do. Great for small repairs, trim work, or furniture touch-ups. Reliable, simple to use, and leaves a professional-looking finish every time.

Gets Grainy FAST
Love this stuff, but work quickly when using and keep tightly sealed even when actively using it. Right out of the pot, it works great, but there's this phase it goes through just after it starts losing its pink color where it gets weirdly grainy and it falls apart while you're pushing it around your work surface. The exposed surface of the putty in the pot discolors relatively quickly when opened, making a not-insignificant amount of any small scoop you take slightly grainier than it could be. Dries quickly though, though in the future I might personally go for one that has a longer open time. Smells strange when fresh, but not overly odorous during use. Sands well when VERY dry (6+ hours), but is pretty weak when less cured. Make sure to use light sanding pressure when fresh. I've used this with pine, MDF, and as a gap filler on FDM printed PLA and it works well in all situations! Overall, good stuff! Would recommend.

Works as intended. Very small amount.
The product is pink while it's wet, then dries white and rock hard. Easily layered, sanded and painted. If you have a large project, you will probably more than this amount; which is about 2/3 cup.

Easy to work with
Worked great for me for a moderate sized project! I appreciate how it starts pink and dries tan, so you know when it’s ready to sand. It sands really beautifully. I completed this project in 3 layers, took a total of two days all together with dry time and such. All I used were 2 containers of this stuff, a sander, and 120 grit sandpaper. Super sturdy. This stuff rocks!

Works alright
Used product before now. It does good. But the size is small. That’s all I wanted to say $5 for 5 oz. Is a bit expensive. See photo. That’s what u get for 5-6 dollars. Not to mention it came in the biggest box lmao.

For light duty only
This stuff works well as a very basic wood filler. It starts off pink then turns tan when dry. It is easy to apply and you can get a relatively smooth finish even before sanding. It dries quickly and is easy to sand and paint. It smells really bad until it dries. I consider this to be a very light-duty cosmetic filler only. It works well for minor dents, scratches, nail holes, etc. but I would never trust it to anchor a screw or use for something that takes any kind of abuse. It is basically the same consistency as DAP spackle and makes a huge amount of dust when sanded. It is also a very small container and can be outrageously priced so be sure to shop around. If you need something that is easy to work with, dries quickly, is easily painted, and is for cosmetic purposes, this is fine but if you need heavy duty wood filler, this simply won't cut it.

Good wood filler
Works great but it’s quite a small pot so good for small repairs which was what I needed
