Hard WorkingPump
I have tried several other utility pumps but this is the best pump that I have found and at a very good price. I have had a problem for years in which I have had water from the street flow into the driveway and flood our garage. I have tried a few diffeent types of pumps but have never had good experiences because they are inconsistent - they don't pump when you need them to. This pump has worked well for several months. I cut a hole into my driveway where the water flows and installed a plastic container into the hole. The pump was installed in the hole with a separate sensing switch. As soon as the water reaches a height of about two inches, the switch powers the pump and the pump removes the water in a few seconds. I covered the hole with mesh to keep major debris from forming and pour a gallon or two of water into the hole every few weeks to check the system. The pump has been very consistent. Water is pushed through a hose to a drainage area. This is a good pump operating at a fairly high speed. Like most pumps, a separate float valve is needed unless you are going to stand at an outlet and unplug the pump when the water is drained. I enjoy this pump and can sleep at night during rainstorms, knowing that the pump is protecting my garage.

This was a lifesaver during 39" of rain from Hurricane Harvey!!!!!!!
This was a life saver during the rains from Hurricane Harvey. I placed the order for this pump and 50' of discharge hose, and almost kissed the Amazon delivery driver when he dropped it off late afternoon on Friday as Harvey's rains started coming in. I have a back yard that doesn't drain well, and installed a 4,200 gph sump several years ago to help take the water level down. Since we were expecting a pretty heavy rainfall (initial forecasts for 15" over 4 days) I thought I might need a backup. Before the pump came in, I bought a 1 1/4" female pvc fitting and a 90 degree elbow to mount a 2" blue pvc discharge hose (thanks Amazon warehouse for the hose). The discharge hose was an easy fit over the outside of the elbow, and fastened with a hose clamp as you can see in the picture. I like this setup a lot better than the ribbed plastic tubes typically sold for this pump. So after the driver handed off the box, I unpack the pump and hose, dug a quick hole in a flower bed, inserted a brick and used some landscaping fabric to keep stuff from clogging the intake. This setup worked well, but I still had to clear the fabric and pump periodically to keep pumping at maximum capacity. My other pump is several years old, and eventually failed on Sunday during the deluge. I got over 39" of rain at my house during Harvey, so this pump absolutely helped to keep water from coming in my house from the back yard. It is a very satisfying feeling to plug in the pump and watch the 2" hose fill to its full diameter, knowing that you are as close to the rated capacity as you can get. It probably ran for more than 15-18 hours a day for three days in a row as I struggled to keep the water moving. Several times I was out on the patio using a push broom to move water from a patio through a breezeway onto my driveway, because the rain was just coming down so fast. Thank you Superior Pump, and Amazon delivery for coming through!

Does the job with water-- has issues with fine particles
I bought the 1/3 HP sump pump to drain my 23,000 gallon in-ground pool---with the garden hose adapter, it was plug and play. It had an 11ft rise, and a horizontal run of about 40ft to tackle, and was plugged in around noon. It looked like the pump may have been able to drain the pool completely by 3am -if it hadn't gotten bogged down with obstructions. The product says it can handle solids up to 1/8"... mine couldn't. It couldn't handle fine particles of sand, or tiny bits of decayed leaf matter, or anything other than microparticles of algea-infused water. The pump had to be constantly unplugged and cleaned and repositioned because it could not handle sand infused water, or disintegrated leaves-- just water. A job that I optimistically thought would be complete at 3am took until 1pm--in addition to scooping and mucking by hand and constant re-adjustments. I understand that the product is not meant to suck up large debris, and I'm not counting the times that the sump pump got blocked by material larger than it was meant to handle. If you're looking for a sump pump that can handle massive amounts of particulates in addition to water (ie: flood water, emptying an uncovered in-ground pool after winter, septic tank issues).... this model probably isn't it. If you're looking for a way to move massive quantities of water (JUST water), it does the job at a reasonable pace and is probably cheaper than renting amore powerful model from the local hardware store. It did the job I purchased it for, and while not neccessarily as easily or as well as I would have liked--I am glad I purchased it, because at least my pool was drained relatively quickly.

Incredible Flow & Long Term Reliability
I am probably using this pump in a way the manufacturer didn't intend. I created a custom bottle washer and carboy/keg cleaner for my home brewing setup. I have some pretty intense plumbing attached to the pump, all with removable fittings so I can get the multipurpose applications from it without too much hassle. It's essentially the concept of a fountain and it handles the back pressure with ease, allowing me to get a healthy stream of water up in the air. I found that taking advantage of the large output is best, if you can swing it with your plumbing and you need the highest flow it's rated for. It handles back pressure just fine, so if you step it down to a smaller diameter hose, the only performance hit is in your pumping volume. When allowed to go full throttle (1"-1-1/4" output), though, you can get some pretty incredible flows from this pump...I can see why people are using it to drain swimming pools. I was able to get about a 10 foot rise from (24) 1/16" outlets simultaneously, so that kind of gives you an idea of the power you can get from the 1/3HP pump. What I like most about this pump is that it handles warm liquids without incident...I'm pushing 120-130 degree water through it with no problems. (It's not rated for high temps, like boiling water.) It also doesn't seem phased with the addition of cleaning substances, particularly PBW (powdered brewery wash) which is an oxygen based cleaner not unlike Oxyclean. I've received many, many hours of use in this application and the pump hasn't even so much as slowed down. It's been easy to clean/maintain and has worked reliably for me. This unit has saved me hours of time in bottle and carboy cleaning, so it gets a full 5 stars from me.

Nice pump- efficient-quiet easy to use
Was worried when we received the package and saw it had a red sticker and part of the label was torn off. Looked like a return. We gave it a try and it worked great. Has the garden hose fitting only. We had a hot tub that needed to be drained. This pump completed the task in one hour. You need to check the pump periodically. As the water became lower, the weight of the 5/8 inch garden hose pulled the pump over on its side. The pump did not shut off while on its side. There is not an automatic shut off on this pump so you need to watch it and turn it off before all the water is gone. We took towels to clean up the rest of the water. The video was too large to upload. ***Must use a 5/8 inch hose. Do not try this with a Zero/flexible hose because they are too small and will hinder the flow of water***

Very dependable
I have used my Superior submersible pump for several months now and it is very dependable. I use it in my business so it is used often. The flow and pressure are very good. I would recommend it as a quality sump pump

Efficiently Removes Water from Pools
This pump worked excellently to remove the last 12" of water from my pool. It didn't take long either. All you do is attach a 3/4" water hose to the top of this pump.....another type of hose can be used as well. That info is located in the product description. The water hose removes the water quicker because the diameter is larger than the other hose. You just screw hose on top of pump, plug it in and place in pool. There is no on/off. As soon as it hits the water it starts pumping. Just lower it into pool. You don't need to get into the pool. It does not need to be in center of pool. It doesn't need to sit on a base. Just place along the side in an upright position. It does an excellent and efficient job of removing that water. When a 1/4" of water is left it's necessary to unplug it or the motor can get damaged from overheating . It will also stop pumping water at that point. I bought a above ground pool and didn't know they won't drain completely. You either have to get a big bucket or a pump. I thought I was going to have to get the bucket. I was so disgusted. A fellow reviewer told me to get a sump pump. I hope my review helps someome. I thought all I needed was to keep the water clean, but you need a sump pump, vacuum, chlorine tablets, shock, water hose. water tester filters for water pump, and a cover....and maybe a heater. You need a electrical outlet that trips when it comes in contact with water I hope this info saves someone from some frustration.

This is a real pump, not a toy like most others…
This is the third pump I have purchased. The idea was to purchase a pump to water 3 large plants. The little aquarium pumps show that they can be chained with 1/4 inch tubing to water….they all differ but they boast powerful features and show at least 3 large plants and a bunch of small ones? have had to go move the hose repeatedly, to get these small pumps to work, they do not create enough pressure to move the water. I watched the video of this pump. They have the 1 hp model in a large container of water. It emptied that huge container in no time. It’s a great video, I believe it’s on here still. Anyhow, I bought the 1/3 hp model, with the check valve. It blew a misting head off that was not on tight enough! Awesome power. These pumps are not toys, they are the real thing. Awesome piece of equipment, I should have started with this pump. Tons of pressure, it can easily water 3 plants. I am totally impressed. Thank you.
