Music files.....Lots and Lots of music Files!
Bad news -- it's a limited edition, so I hope you've found this right here now in 2011, otherwise you're probably stuck putting this on your wish list.Good news -- when you Do get this, it will pretty much be worth it. No, not Every good cue from the nine-season show is here (how could they be?), but with 4CDs, it is a nice big selection spread throughout the show's history. Also, it has the very intriguing and promising subtitle of "Volume 1" -- may there be many more volumes to come.Beautiful packaging evokes memories of the original DVD sets (among the first season sets ever done), with a generally well-written booklet with lots of details about the various cues. (A few of them wrong, but still an overall 95% for accuracy.)A handful of cues from the early seasons are carted over from the 1996 "Truth and Light" album, with the dialogue thankfully removed. It's inevitably a mixed bag listening to this, since there are excellent cues beloved by most Philes and score fans that are not here, and some rather pedestrian or near atrocious themes that many would gladly trade for one or more of the aforementioned prime cuts. I'd gladly trade those 1 or 2 too many cues from certain lacklustre episodes with over 3 cues each in this collection, with other much better cues from truly classic episodes.I'd say that about 70 % of the music here is stuff that would have made my primary most-wanted top 100 cue list, and some of the others are still good. Besides a few "Truth and Light" repeats, a few of the season 5, 6, early 7 mytharc cues share a lot of similarities with cues from the first (1998) XF movie. And I never did like season 8's "Scully Theme," a really irritating, badly written and performed piece that helped mar the already trying experience of watching that season. It's a bad rip-off of "Edward Scissorhands" theme and "Beautiful Mind"'s opening with a singer in a super-botched attempt to channel Lisa Gerrard. At least the non-vocal versions of the theme are not only tolerable, but even pretty good. Yes, there's music from the ever controversial last three seasons, but much of it is really good.Otherwise, it's hard to complain when there is so much good stuff here, some of which I've waited years to have on CD.....and the potential of more Volumes beckons [in-joke Phile alert] like the ringing of magical XF cel-phones......

Great modern scoring
If you are a fan of The X-Files, or just appreciate crafty film scores, this is a wonderful collection which showcases the remarkable talent of composer Mark Snow. In many ways, my perception of the mood and atmosphere of The X-Files, was the direct result of the music that he created for the series. I'm so happy that I was able to find and purchase this collection; especially one of the signed copies.

Missing Disc 2!
I can't really rate the item, since it is incomplete. My rating is not a true rating, but I have to provide one.Received my order in record time, but the set was missing disc 2. Discs 1, 3, and 4 are in the jewel case, but disc 2 is just not there.Hopefully the seller will replace. Anyone else run into this?UPDATE! (2014-01-07) Seller did send a replacement disc within a few days. Upped the rating to 5/5, since the complete set is definitely worth it, particularly the content on disc 2. Sorry for the extremely late update to this review. I had just forgotten to do so!

WOW
If you consider yourself an X-Files fanatic like myself then this is a must have. I purchase everything under the sun that is reasonably priced. This is my favorite X-Files purchase thus far. It is a bit pricey, but it is so worth it. I just hope they follow this up with a second and third volume if not more. If you love the music from the show you won't be disappointed.

Finally, some music that is pretty much right off the screen of many of our favorite moments from the show! This score is so great to finally hear so many years later... and still I can name many of the scenes without looking at the book (which by the way is awesomely thorough in describing the scene/intent/and feel of each track!!! It's sooo nostalgic of sitting in on a Friday night with the lights out (watching a fresh new episode). IF YOU NEVER MISSED AN EPISODE OF THE X FILES (ESPECIALLY THE ORIGINAL AIRINGS) YOU WILL LOVE THIS SCORE! Great stuff from the early parts of the series... I, myself will probably break it down by conspiracy episodes to place on my own cds. Personal Favs: "Closure" (from "The End"), and "The Patriarch" (From the opening of the epic "Two Fathers/One Son" two-parter). It's also good to hear some of the tv version of some of the music from the Fight the Future Film Score (from "Biogenesis").Minor complaints: I think we could have used less of the incidental chase or fight scene type cues from many eps. Some of the least melodic tracks are too extensive... which could have been sidelined for a more consistent presence from the mythology episodes. Much is present from the almost zany "X Files Lite" episodes that filled in some of the later seasons.HALF OF THE SCORE IS STILL OUT THERE: Lets hope volume 2 will complete our need for X-Files cues...There are some sounds I was expecting that were not here: [Scoring from Talitha Cumi/Herrenvolk, Tunguska/Terma, Redux I & II, One Son, Detour], to name a few. Rather than being a second half, Vol.2 should 'merge' with Vol.1 from start to finish.COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY: 8 different (altered for time and/or lengthened/remixed) versions of the opening /ending theme. Hey, the theme is great, but it has graced EVERY HERETOFORELY RELEASED X FILES MUSIC ALBUM TO DATE *in some form or another*. If your thirst for the score has been unquenched like mine over the years then you see why the listening value of the opening theme is just ....DONE FOR.Anyways, it's all good... If you're a fan! This is probably the most important musical buy in relation to the beloved tv show!

Toller Serien Soundtrack
Muss man nicht viel sagen sehr schöner Soundtrack zur Serie, Mark Snow hatte für Akte X und Millennium einen klasse Sound entworfen.
