I use these for oil and the brushes load easily and hold a lot of paint. Unlike other more expensive brushes I've tried, a chiselled edge is easy to maintain. I've only used these for a couple of weeks but so far their shape has held up after washing (I use a 2:1:1 mixture Oil, dish detergent, and water).

I have been a professional artist since 1985 with art as my sole income. I did art shows for a living and now I have been teaching oil painting for nineteen years. I teach 75 students a week and I nor my students have never used a sable brush as good as these Magic Touches! As soon as they touch the canvas they lay the paint on beautifully, with ease. They are the perfect flexibility, strength and softness for oil painting. I have spent untold dollars on expensive brushes through the years and none have worked nearly as well as these, which are priced so reasonable, most of my students bought both the filberts and the round sables. My students take one stroke with these brushes, where they have been struggling with other expensive sables, and MAGIC happens!!! They are truly amazed at how fantastic they are. There are some things like lining up the hairs that come with more expensive brushes that could be improved. However other reviewers complain about shedding. More novice people may want to try applying gentle pressure at an angle after wetting the brushes and using their fingers to rinse out the glue that holds them stiff. That will help prevent shedding. Also I used plyers right away to tighten the metal around the bristles. No shedding at this pt.Makes clean edges.Long handles make them great for more expressionist painting.Holds a fair amount of water.No problems for a 30 dollar brush setHowever someone at the post office is being super lazy and not checking my address before continuously dropping them off at random neighbors houses. Filed a complaint with amazon. Though USPS is responsible.

Meant to come back here just for this review several times. These brushes' quality is amazing and l am gauging them up against the best of Winsor and Newton, not W&N.They are supple and well shapped but best of all they hold paint well and are totally predictable, which is great. They retain their shape over time and the bristles are well anchored. I never cared before for "chisel shapped brushes" yet these are of such quality that they will broad stroke as easily as fine line. I am impressed.

What I ordered was described as "filberts" but what showed up was cut flat, and not labeled as anything. Definitely not filberts and definitely not what was in the picture. If you own any good sable brushes and that is what you are looking for, you will be very disappointed these bear little resemblance. I don't know who is posting all of these 5-starreviews and I can't imagine why. These were priced very low, and its another lesson of you get what you pay for. Fortunately, the price was cheap enough that I can justify using them as beaters, so not a total loss, and that is why I have given 2 stars instead of 1.

This is the second set I have purchased and the brushes are absolutely wonderful in my hand, and they deliver the paint smoothly and efficiently.They return to their correct shaping after washing by running between my fingers. The price is extremely reasonable for the quality of the product.When I need more brushes, this set will be my first choice. I use them mainly for water miscible oils, and acrylic occasionally.
