What is actually required to make this model kit the way it is in the picture? I know I need all the tools and paint, but is anything else required?

Hi Noah,It builds perfect out of the box but if you want to add some nice details I recommend replacing the barrels with turned brass or aluminum, and rails. If you want to take it a step further - get a PE set as well and the wooden deck.It is time consuming (like any ship kit) but both Tamiya and Dragon kits are excellent design and engineered.Cheers!
