Would these pins work in place of a brooch pin to use as closure on women's cardigan (which comes without buttons!)?

Yes, I would use them in many facets of fashion. I would remove the stick pin of two, use a piece of chain with suitable weight attach the ends to two brooch pins, glue to the back of the pins. You can attach to opposite sides of a cardigan. I hope this helps.
