Yes it will work with an iPhone 4s. The connector is the old 30pin style like those have.

Can it work on iphone3gs and ipad 3?

I found that the iM2 does not work with the iphone 4s, although it is stated on the box that it does. I initially returned it when it didn't work on my 4s, and when the replacement came, it also didn't work, but worked on my son's iphone 4 (no 's'). I assume it will work on any iphone before the 4s that has that same connector, but I only know for sure what I stated. I don't own an Ipad, and didn't try it out on one, so have nothing to offer on that device.

The TASCAM iM2 is essentially two microphones. It attaches directly to your iPhone 4/4S, 4th gen iPod touch or iPad/iPad2 through the 30-pin dock connector port where you would connect your power/sync cable. I've read that others have successfully used newer devices with a 30-pin > lightning adaptor. The TASCAM iM2 does have a USB-Mini-B port for charging your device while in use (it has no internal battery and does drain your device pretty quick)
