2nd time ordering this product. Large, first rate whole mushrooms

I’ve ordered these mushrooms once a year for many years. This is the first time this has happened —as soon as I opened the package I noticed a different smell and sadly there’s fuzzy white mold growing on a lot of the mushrooms. For the record, you are not supposed to simply try to cook it off it can be harmful. Whether they weren’t dried properly or exposed to moisture, I don’t know…

The picture for this product displayed dried king boletes, what I received was red cap scaber stalk, which is a type of bolete. The back of the packaging indicates that inside are “Boletus edulis and its group” Flavor of these mushrooms is much stronger, some may find it abrasive, personally, I like these as I grew up picking and eating them. No issues here, the quality of mushrooms is great. One complaint is that the mushrooms came not fully dried, I just made sure to dry them and transfer into a glass jar for storing. If you order these, make sure to open and check the mushrooms and dry them if needed so they don’t go bad.

Rehydrate, boil, drain the water or run through a sieve to catch the dirt (otherwise you will get terrible hard pieces of dirt), and use a blender to puree it. And the flavor is stunning. I like to store them frozen with some mild spicing in small 1/2 pint jars in the freezer to add flavor to dishes. Soup, pasta, rice, or anything that needs a kick!

I got this delivered yesterday. It smells good, but I happened to have some porcini left over from another vendor (they don't have it at the moment and thus I could not reorder) and so I compared the smell. This one does not smell as strong as the other mushrooms from ther other vendor and is not as dry as the other one. On the plus side, these are bigger pieces and either this vendor sent more than 1 lb or the other vendor delivered less. I packed these in the same container as before and have about 1/4-1/3 still left in the bag. So I am happy with this vendor and this purchase.

I have bought dried porcini mushrooms through Amazon in the past and they have been great. They looked like the dried porcini mushrooms from Italy. These dried mushrooms I received from Urbani mushrooms look like a lower grade product. The mushrooms are darker and am seeing a lot of irregular discoloured pieces and stems. Not what is pictured on your site. Very disappointed to find out I can’t return the product.
