ONLY BUY THE PORTUGAL PRESSING OF THIS WONDERFUL RECORD
This really is a glorious record: creative, emotional, bold and original.But...I bought the 'Prefab Sprout' vinyl issue and (like many reviewers' copies by the look of it) the hole was off-centre, so by the time the needle approached the end of the side it was wobbling all over the place and the sound was terribly distorted. So i followed the advice of another buyer's comment and returned that copy and ordered the one pressed in Portugal. Bingo! This plays perfectly. Please take this advice, only buy it if it's pressed in Portugal as it seems that batch is fine.Otherwise, buy the original Paddy issue on CD. It is a definite 'must have'.

A truly wonderful record
EDIT: On first play I found the record was pressed off-centre and sounds warped. Sent it back for replacement. Hopefully the replacement will be as perfect as this deserves to be.Bought this on CD release back in 2003 and played it to death. Played it every now and then over the years, particularly late and night and on night-time car journeys.I was really looking forward to finally having a vinyl version and I wasn't disappointed. A lovely double album (though three-sided), heavyweight, gorgeously printed gatefold sleeve. I have to say I did like the original artwork, but this is nice.As others have mentioned I'm not quite sure why this has been released under the Prefab Sprout moniker as it is really nothing like their output, but I guess it's gets the casual or curious listener to give the album a go.The title track is a tour-de-force, a beautiful piece of work, with some touching and poignant narration from American Yvonne Connors.Produced by Calum Malcolm, the producer of The Blue Nile and It's Immaterial's finest moments.A truly wonderful record.Andromeda Heights on vinyl next please, Mr McAloon.

Fantastic, but possibly not what you expect
I don't understand why this has been re-released as a Prefab Sprout album. It was originally released as a Paddy McAloon solo album, and it should have stayed that way. Anyone who buys this on the strength of Prefab Sprout's few hits from the eighties and nineties won't get what they expect. This is nothing like the Prefab Sprout of old. There is only one track which has recognisable Paddy McAloon vocals; it is about half instrumental, and almost classical in sound, bringing to mind such possible influences as Eric Satie, Paul McCartney (Liverpool Collage), The Orb (Little Fluffy Clouds), and the Kronos Quartet. I absolutely love it, and have played it through four times non-stop since I received it at lunchtime today. As mentioned earlier, if you're expecting a familiar sounding Prefab Sprout album, you won't find it here, but I would imagine most people would enjoy it, and appreciate the work which has beeen put into this obvious labour of love.

This used to be a solo album!
Originally released in 2003 as a Paddy McAloon solo album this has been rebadged as a Prefab Sprout one now. It’s mainly orchestrated instrumental music. A very different departure from the normal catalog.

Profound and beautiful
I am a fan of Prefab Sprout and have gone with them with open ears over the years. This was a pretty radical departure back from the PS canon in 2003 but very quickly became one of the albums I most value. As I've gotten older, it makes even more sense and is ever more impactful.A headphones album if ever there was one, ITTM is a mature, beautiful suite of tracks. And not remotely as inaccessible as some reviews would suggest. The opening track is worth admission alone: a powerful poem set to music over 22 minutes. This is a sad, poignant yet uplifting album. More contemporary classical than alternative rock/pop. Fans of Gavin Bryars' Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet should find much to enjoy. For anyone else, especially anyone who trusts Paddy McAloon, this should provide sustenance over multiple listens. It's glorious.

A truly beautiful listen!
I don’t think anyone has managed to describe exactly what this album is like. There are voices, but most of this is just beautiful instrumental music. It is like the best of Prefab Sprout in that the melodies are simply beautiful and the arrangements ravishing. And like Prefab Sprout it is always interesting and repays close listening. When you realise that Paddy Wrote this when he had almost gone blind it is even more amazing. To conjure such beauty when he must have been so low is astonishing. I heard it for the first time today and I am captivated by it. I couldn’t recommend it more highly!

An adventurous excercise
I first heard about this via Jude Rogers excellent book, 'The Sound of Being Human.' The main piece is quite startling when you hear it for the first time and I love the narrative. I wonder however if some of the lush music is a bit samey, and if a trumpet can play more than three notes Nevertheless it is an imaginative piece of music and speech and is well worth a listen.

One of my top 5 favorite albums of all time
I bought the original version of this in 2003 when it was released under the creators name, Paddy McAloon. I have listened to it many hundreds of times over the last 17 years and was heartened when it was being remastered under the Prefab Sprout name. I bought the CD and white vinyl versions and am loving them even more.Paddy McAloon is a true pop song writer and while there are no "hits" on this album, it is a masterpiece of concept, composition and lyricism. My hope is that someday, he works with an orchestra and brings this to the stage in some multi discipline format. I would go to every show!

Excellent Sound Quality
I have owned this album on CD for years, and I am hearing new things on the remastered LP. It is a must own for any Prefab fan. It shows why those in the know snap up whatever Paddy McAloon puts out.
