Very well written and the artwork will definitely make adults and children laugh.

This is such a sweet story! It’s silly and fun for the kids yet makes me cry just about every time I read it. It’s definitely more suited for older kids as it’s a little longer and has harder concepts for really little kids to fully grasp and stay interested in. I’d almost recommend it more to gift to a significant other! Berkeley Breathed is such a wonderful author and this story does not disappoint.

I love his comics and I love his books. I have a shelf dedicated to his publications being propped up with a stuffed Opus. We have been a fan of Breathed since the beginning and it was wonderful to buy this book. What a sweet story. It is extra special as the idea came from a drawing from his daughter.

Great story. Very relevant and timely story. My seven year-old granddaughter and I both love this book. I have been a huge fan of Berke Breathed since I used to eagerly await the Sunday paper to read Bloom County in the very early eighties. Both my Grand-daughters and I have enjoyed his children's books for years. Just Because Disney made "Mars needs Moms" very Creepy doesn't diminish that book itself and "Pete and Pickles" is a very worthy addition to his collection. Other reviewers imply that this story is not for children and to them I say that I have no idea what they are talking about. These are undoubtedly the same people who think that the beginning of Bambi and elements of Big Hero 6 are too much for small children. Ultimately the story is not at all sad, but rather uplifting and enlightening. Highly recommend to all!

The book is excellent! lovely illustrations and terrific writing. The seller said it was in VG condition and did not disclose it was a library book. The seller than contacted me via email and offered a refund. I appreciate their customer service and follow-up. Thank you.

Look. This book is tender, sad, playful, dark, and hopeful. It is about two very mismatched personality friends that show the power that imagination and love can have over despair and predictability. I was gifted this book when my kids were young. Now I give it to all my friends with young children. I love it.

The only thing I don't like about Berkeley Breathed is that he doesn't produce more instant classics like this. He is the Dr. Seuss of the 21st century. He is so good that I find it frustrating that there are not more of his books to buy."Pete and Pickles" is another combination of brilliant art and meaningful story telling. Most children's books are read once and chucked. "Pete and Pickles", however, is one I revisit often to read to my kids. If they would let me, I would probably be reading it to them while they are in high school.If you haven't hopped on the Berkeley Breathed wagon yet, check out "Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big," "The Last Basselope: One Ferocious Story", "Goodnight Opus", "Flawed Dogs", and "Mars Needs Moms". This book has some real depth to it, but it's not preachy. My minister used it as the basis for sermon in church as he was about to leave for another assignment. We all loved the message, and the book makes it sink in. A parent can use the book as a jumping off point for discussion of how people's personalities differ, what risk-aversion is, how attempting new things can be rewarding, what friendship is, how people of very different backgrounds can be loyal friends, etc., etc.I'm buying another one, as well as sterling silver beads of a pig and an elephant, as a Christmas gift for a grandchild.
