How easy is this to fold away?

Very easy. It folds in a particular way but it comes with 3-step picture-Instructions that are easy to follow and remember. You just twist and fold into a circle. Hope that helps.

How many balls do you recommend? For my 1 year old.

This tent was a present for someone. However, I'd say a bag of 100 is good. I got that for my child even before he was one

Does the top just sit on ?

I bought this as a Christmas present for my Granddaughter so I did not see the instructions but I know the top did sit on the top of the tent. I do not know however if the top can be fixed if you have it outside on a windy day..
