Excellent Home School Tool
I found this book to be a wonderful way to include great words in my third grader's weekly lessons. He loves the cartoons and they seem to help him remember the words as well as automatically use them in his daily conversations. Wonderful, straight to the point book!

Great Resource
This book gives you so many vocabulary cartoons and the complexity of the words is perfect for my middle school students. It will also give some of my more creative students inspiration to come up with vocabulary cartoons of their own. I look forward to using it this year.

Flawed but Good
I agree that the book needs an index, or at least arrangement of the words in alphabetical order. I also think some of the words are too esoteric to be useful (e.g., pulchritude--when was the last time you saw it used?). However, I find students retain words from cartoon vocabulary books--this one and others--much more than straight text books. Also, the cartoons are G-rated, unlike those in other cartoon vocabulary books. The words are a little abstract for elementary students, but 6th graders and up will be ready. It's also good for SAT, SSAT, and ISEE preparation.

No index or table of contents
The cartoons and definitions are great. I also like that each cartoon only takes up half a page. However, the words are harder than I thought they'd be. Also, the words are not in alphabetical order and... brace yourself - there is no index or table of contents!!! You can't quickly find a word you're trying to teach. - Frustrated Teacher

Fun way to expose students to vocabulary
I've been basically just showing this to my ESL students. It functions as a kind of reading exercise for them. The more exposure to vocab, the better - especially if it's fun!
