Works well in a variety of soil conditions. Length and handle shape are good. Its size is what you need for digging plants to move to new locations. Well constructed. The round handle shape seems a little better for my arthritic hands. The foot step is also well designed. Yes it is light.

Very well made would highly recommend. It does the job at hand with ease.

I purchased this while working on a friend’s garden where I did not have access to my own tools. Although I love how light it is, it is no Root Slayer (doesn’t have the razor teeth on the sides) and the shovel definitely has flex to it, which makes me skeptical that it is capable of living up to its claim of being great for transplanting in average gardens where the soil tends to be more clay than sand. It worked fine in my friend’s garden because her soil is very sandy (opposite of mine, which has patches of clay) and I’m sure it’s great if you’re digging in a bed filled with topsoil, but if you’re in clay or dealing with roots, I don’t think this would get the job done. That said, I’ve watched professional excavators dig trenches with shovels that were lightweight and had similar flex to this one, so perhaps there’s a technique to using this type of shovel that I haven’t figured out. The heft of the original Root Slayer makes it harder to use, but that weight seems to help it cut through clay better.

I have previously bought a Radius shovel and love it. I really use my stuff. I recently bought this one and love it as well. They are made in China and well made. I have Clay around my house, thank you builder for emptying the basement clay directly around the house, so I literally have to dig a pot for each plant I plant and this narrow shovel is a God send. I have planted literally hundreds of plants, each hole is a sweaty victory, and this shovel has held up to the task. The handle and shaft is still tight to the shovel end and the handle end after all the use and abuse I have given it along with its brother shovel with a a narrow head but not as narrow as this one. They hold up well and will buy again from this company. My wife and I love the round handle, its more than a gimmick, why didn't anyone think of this before? The steel on the shovel part is heavy duty and will not bend, regardless of the abuse I throw at it. We will continue to use and abuse these Radius products again this summer. They are getting a rare and well deserved 5 star rating from us. Enjoy!

The tip of the blade is only 2 inches wide; the top of the blade is about 6 inches wide. This tool is perfect for making plant divisions. It's easy to slice through perennials like day lilies or to separate and lift my tip-rooted azaleas without making excessively wide cuts into the soil. I can sink the tool tip into the soil a few inches four or five times to make a clean circle around a plant division, leaving the parent plant largely undisturbed. Very happy to have this tool.

Great shovel for back yard requirements!

Good solid feel. At first thought it was too short but now realize the ergonomic advantage.

this is a great landscaping tool and it's helped me take through many flower beds.

This is my first time getting into gardening and this is an absolute lifesaver to get out old stubborn roots. Very light and very sturdy/solid. Not sure why there a ''Cancer and reproductive harm'' sticker on the handle, but other than that, Absolutely amazing

My new favourite shovel. Sharp and easy to lift, transplant and dig holes, with narrow blade, makes working in tougher rocky soil a breeze.

I am a tool fanatic, and this spade is the perfect tool for the job, I wouldn't say that it is particularly 'Lite', but, no mind, it feels solid in the hand. I recommend this to anyone serious about the right tool for transplanting shrubs and small trees. One tiny niggle is that soil gets up in the space where the blade wraps around the shaft and doesn't quite meet, I clean up after every job, but it might be a problem for someone who doesn't. As I said this is a minor observation for a perfect tool.

I love this shovel. It allows me to get into tight spaces to dig out only what you need to dig out without disturbing the surroundings. I would certainly recommend it.
