The book is wildly full of useful content.
At my job I was moved to a team in telecommunication which handles DS0, T1, and any type of dedicated line. “It’s 2023!?” I thought to myself. I’ve been on tech teams handling VoIP, DSL, Cable, COAX, servers and monitoring systems for a bit now, so getting “promoted” to the DS0 team would mean I’d have to unlearn everything I had developed my level of confidence in.This book is truly a reference guide for everyone who cares to understand and respect everything related to telecommunications. It makes me proud to be a part of an industry that is as antiquated as the old Reading Railroad system but still both hood relevance in making our everyday lives a better quality day.

Decent Book
This book helps you with the in's and out's of telecom and explains them in layman's terms if you don't understand them.

Superb book!
This book is flat out great. The author's humor and overall way of writing keeps you interested in the content all throughout the book. If you have basic to no telecom experience this book will walk you through step by step without being overally technical. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of technical information in this book as well, but it is presented in such a manner that it almost doesn't seem so technical. The only sections I skipped were the ones on Troubleshooting. Since that topic covered such a wide range of setups and configurations, I did want to spend the time on the "theory" behind it all now. I do see that section as an excellent reference if encountered with actual real world telecom problems in the future though.Overall I would highly suggest this book if you require incite into the world of telecom for your job or your own business.

Incredibly dated
I wish they'd release an updated version of this book, but this one is incredibly dated. At the rate that telecom moves, 10 years is just too much. Most of the book revolves around physical wiring and doing price comparisons between long distance providers.Significant time is spent on why intra-LATA long distance calls are more expensive than inter-LATA log distance. 10-10-321 is touted as a good long distance troubleshooting tool. The author warns that you need to begin thinking about your website as part of your telecom plan. The book is well written and I wish I'd read it when it first came out, but until they release an updated version this one is mostly interesting for the nostalgia factor.

Purchasing for the second time in 8 years
I am purchasing this again for the second time. The first time was back in 2008 when I began working for the Government as a Telecommunications Contracting Officer, contracting for internal and external Government agencies. I had no knowledge or experience whatsoever with telecommunications and needed something clear and concise I could go to for information and to learn the basics of Telecommunications and networking, etc. I looked at what other sources have now become available as well, and found that the telecom for dummies is still the best choice for what I need.I only worked in my original position in 2008 for only 1 year, and after several personal moves, as well as office moves, the book got lost along the way. I am now once again moving into a brand new telecommunications contracting division, supporting our national telecommunications Services Department and once again I need to start from scratch. Not having used the information for eight years, and not being much of a techie to begin with, I need to really read this from front to back instead of like the last time, just using it for reference.

Good for consumer, not employees/working in Telecom
Good for consumer, not employees in Telecom or those trying to simply learn more about Telecommuncations industry. But it dumbs it down for those who want to get networks setup for their business.
