This no.3 JIS tipped impact screwdriver is good for brake rotor screws on Japanese cars. It works perfectly with regular phillips tips as well. It's not nearly as bulky as regular hand impacts and its easier to handle and manipulate one-handed. The JIS tip is awesome on any type of Japanese made hardware, but works on regular phillipstips just as good. It doesn't try to "cam out" nearly as easy. The shaft is surprisingly tight in the handle and doesn't rattle like I thought it might. The handle is large and sturdy with a steel striking cap on the end. The hard rubber-type material is nice to hold onto. The shaft is a chrome plated carbon tool steel. It has a good weight to it. I like it because it still functions as a regular screwdriver that can stay in the box I carry the most. I don't have to run back to go get my bigger Hand impact every time a screw is stuck, or keep the heavier impact in the box I carry. I simply replaced a regular no.3 with this in the toolbox. I've actually bought the whole set of these now. I'd definitely recommend all three sizes. It's handy to have and I definitely recommend them. Vessel makes an awesome driver.

Before getting this tool, I mangled many a screw that was rusted into a brake rotor. This design is used by Honda and Hyundai, among others, where the rotor is held to the hub by screws. I have attempted to use screwdrivers, impact drivers, and often eventually just drilled the screws out when they got stripped. But this tool is different. You put it on the screw and hammer it with a big hammer, and the impact breaks loose the rust, while simultaneously applying a slight rotational force to turn the screw loose. I think it works best with a heavy hammer (like a small sledgehammer, 4 to 5 lbs). Hit it solidly 4 to 5 times, and that is just right to break the screw loose. From there it can be easily removed. The tool can be used to hand-tighten the screws back in as well. This is basically a heavy-duty screwdriver with a special feature to turn counter-clockwise slightly with each blow. It feels very sturdy, and I can't imagine this tool breaking, even if hammered on aggressively with a large hammer. I am very pleased with how much easier this tool has made an otherwise difficult task.

Most people who work on foreign equipment have no idea that the Phillips screws/bolts they think they're dealing with are really of the "J.I.S." type. That is, "Japanese Industrial Standard". They are different and better, in that they lock-in the screwdriver and deliver the torque needed to unscrew the little bastard things without rounding out the head. To see if you have them, look for a very narrow and clean cross shape, possibly also a small dot located a short distance from the cross cavity. In April 2021 I used the model here - VESSEL MEGADORA IMPACTA Impact Driven Screwdriver +3x150 (6") No.980 980P3150, to get two screws out that secure each of the rear brake rotors to the wheel hubs on a 2008 Honda Element. I used screwdriver size +3 (at least get something that reads "3" for the size; the "+" refers to the head shape, i.e. a cross.) They are available in about 4 sizes. This screwdriver is of the impact type - each heavy wack is supposed to turn the screw about 12 degrees. One caveat - don't expect it to work with a carpenter type hammer, use something like a 5-pound mechanic's hammer, like out of the ballad of John Henry the steel-drivin' man. Even with that it will take about 5 or 6 good blows to get it to the point where it will unscrew manually. The impact function works only in the unscrew direction (left or counter clockwise). Otherwise it works as a normal screwdriver, also works with Phillips head screws. I recommend the VESSEL MEGADORA IMPACTA Impact Driven Screwdriver +3x150 (6") No.980 980P3150. If not for a good J.I.S. impact screwdriver for these kind of hopeless jobs we might as well just give up and check in to a good mental hospital. Used this to break free the screw on brake rotors. A life saver. Rotors had the usual rust and corrosion from northern climate; no way a screwdriver was going to break them free. Recommend this for brake rotor replacement.

fit the 2006 honda element disc brake screws just fine, and one came out after a few bangs, but i never saw the screw tip turn counter clockwise as it is supposed to do. taking off a star for that. the other screw was kinda stripped, and this screw driver had no effect on it, so i had to drill the screw out... but yes, it fits those special JIS screws nice and snug.

This was a great purchase, I recommend this product.

These are essential if you do any kind of work on vintage Japanese bikes. It takes a bit more force than other manual impacts but works excellently and there is zero play in the mechanism. Aside from the end cap and being heavier than a standard driver you wouldn't know it's not a standard driver. Quality is excellent

Great for those brake rotors screws a must have

Perfect for JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) screws on japanese cars and motorcycles; also beats your standard Phillips driver on Phillips screws as it doesn't cam out. Try and get a brake disc (rotor) off a Mazda without one of these! Unique impact action makes it the best screwdriver IN THE WORLD (in my humble opinion). This of course applies to all sizes of Vessel Impacta screwdrivers. Arigatou gozaimashita

Excellent produit destinee aux marche Japonais. Tres utile pour sortir les vis JIS, pour laquelle une tournevis philips faite trop des degats. D'aillures, cette tournevis JIS marche bien avec les vis philips.
